We’ve all been there, needing to do something but the right tool isn’t to hand

When have you looked at the wrong tool and thought, fuck it, that’ll do the job? What was it and what were you doing?

It’s usually using a spanner as a hammer for me

Normally using a flat head screwdriver as a chisel

I’m one of those wankers who likes to have the tool for the job though, when I worked for my dad he wouldn’t by any tools ever all we had to cut with was one old sthil saw that only started 40% of the time and wouldn’t idle so had to keep finger on trigger, I remember sitting for hours on a Friday afternoon trying to get a drive cut in waiting for the sthil saw deciding to start so now I make sure have an abundance of tools for the job

And when you have the right tool you realise why that is the tool

Glasgow / London

I’ve strapped the exhaust up on a Peugeot 205 with a dog lead. And I’ve tied the rear suspension together on a Mitsubishi L200 with a bungee cord.

Is that the sort of thing you were thinking?

North West

I've used a pen to try and (unsuccessfully) open a corked bottle.

We've used a geological hammer for quite a bit of DIY.

Probably lots of other things I've tried to bodge but can't remember right now

The last time I was faced with a proper echoey gaper of a growler. I looked at my poor intimidated little chap and thought “ah well, a recorder in the Albert hall is still music!”

Used the back of a hairbrush and heel of a shoe as I couldn't find the hammer

Knives as screwdrivers

Scissors as a spanner...

They worked in the end haha

Hex screwdrivers, reached for the wrong spanner/bit. Security screws; they are almost perfect for the job but not quite!
