You often see people use genuine in profile, status or meeting requests. What does it really mean? It seems that people have such widely varied notions of that, that it actually carries very little value. As a minimum of genuine I would expect to be who they say they are, to abide by arrangements made and perhaps naively to be of 'good' character.

What does it mean to you?

I would guess they’re trying to convey that they’re not fakes or timewasters. If they say they’ll come round and pork your pudding, you’re getting stuffed and no mistake! And they’ll probably wash, too.

Sorry, I didn't even answer your question did I. Genuine to me means that what you see is what you get, that I am what I say I am and who I am. Truthful and honest.

You gotta be careful because if you put "genuine" on your profile and you haven't met the ISO 30500 spec that covers it you're one mistake away from a crippling lawsuit.

Best just to claim best efforts.

Manchester (she/her)

It usually seems like a thing people put on profiles because they see others doing it.

"Been here before, know the score, I'm genuine, no time wasters. Facebook is a public traded entity..."
