Prefer to get charger with phone?

More phones are sold without a power charger. Do you prefer to get them together, or not?

I've just lost a spare and I'm surprised at how expensive many of them are . And considering buying a charger that's more powerful than my current phone really needs, on my assumption that it'll be more future proofed than a lower-powered one. 20w, higher, etc.

I usually just charge a power pack and use that

Wales/ All over UK

I think it’s pretty much a given nowadays that everyone has access to multiple USB sockets, so I think chargers don’t really need to be provided.

If you want a faster charger than you have available then the option to buy one is always there, but a standard USB is usually plenty fast enough for standard use.

I remember at one point having 8 different chargers from various devices and only ever using one of them, so the other 7 were a complete waste

It’s a bit annoying especially given they’re still charging the same amount if not more. That being said, I think chargers are easy to get and for relatively cheap as well that it doesn’t bother me.

I think that's where my backup ended up

With phones getting ever bigger, cutting out providing a charger in the box, cuts down the shipping weight. As well as the costs of manufacture and shipping costs

It was a black one, Motorola.

It's great that USB C seems to be the default now, so at least they are mostly compatible. I think Apple have shifted onto it too

I bet the staff sell them on eBay. I remember having problems with my phone when staying at a hotel, and wondered if it was my charger or their socket. I asked if they had a spare I could try, they brought a box full out

In 20 years this will be someone’s story on how they became a millionaire.

In all seriousness though, it’ll be a lot more hassle than it’s worth. I imagine there are a lot more than chargers in their list and found as well.

Near Clacton

I think it's a bit of a con. Not too dissimilar to buying cordless tools. drills grinders saws etc, most decent branded ones do not include the battery or charger, which are sold separately and these days these new batteries are fearfully expensive! Li ion batteries are the way to go at the moment as they hold a very good charge and they have no memory. Similar unbranded makes are sold with the batteries and chargers. I mean one would not buy a pencil then expect to buy the lead separately;-)

I've benefitted a couple of times from the hotel boxfulls. I'm not a big fan of the person who cleans my room at my regular haunt - they are really slow and I'm sure would nick it :-

Unlike another cleaner, who kept my left shampoo on her trolley for me, and returned it, when I was next back. As a frequent guest, it can both help and hinder

Maybe, but you can often find bundles on offer to get you started.

I now have 4x 5.0amp batteries which will do me two hard work days on site used across multiple tools before charging the lot.

On last purchase I actually got a combidrill, 2x batteries and a dual fast charger on a deal and then flogged the drill off to another tradie so ended up with the batteries and charger for half the price I would have paid for them separately (still told the tax man the whole lot was deductible )

The new eu rules should help with this they have just came in to force last year / this year take a couple off years but ones it’s in offect iy should be like micro usb you have tons off spares laying around

I know we are not in the eu

But electric makers aren’t going to design 2-3 different ports

What I am talking about is all devices sold in the eu that change must be usb type C

Witch means you start to get usb c cables and such in a plethora off other devices

As for the charger plug it’s self

Would recommend buying one fast charge plug and keep it In the house and if traveling and such just use a cheap standard 5w one that will come bundled with most other devices that aren’t phone

As for keeping the wight off the shipping down for compey that’s not true as the last iPhone is lighter than a iPhone that’s 5 years old

iPhone 11 Pro Max wighted 226 g

Newest iPhone 15 pro max 221 g

The newest iPhone is 5 grams lighter than it

Also they are not cutting charges out to cut cost ither

They are being forced to cut them out

environmental friendly

It’s called e waste the powers at be are the ones forcing it
