Hi all native American fan here
Jump to: Newest in thread
I'm sure I have native American ancestors, always played as a redskin when younger, not a cowboy ever
Now more older still same like dressing up and wearing skimpy loin cloth and moccasins, with a black wig and extra touch use warpaint, maybe I'm weird but enjoy the escapism, even bought a bow and arrows and tomahawk as weapons, not real I hasten to add arrows rubber tipped, anyone fancy a game of cowboys and Indians, love a wrestle with a hunky cowboy or another native fan, thanks I'm in Kent

Luckily the majority of people are happy to partake in other cultures and share their own too. Imagine how backwards we'd be if cultures just kept their own ways exclusively for themselves! We'd not have developed as a people anywhere near as much as we have. |

My Cypriot nephew dressed up as sherlock Holmes on world book day, I'd best tell him, or his parents, that he's out of order and to stick to his own culture in future. He probably offended someone somewhere. |

I've never had an Indian friend whinge when I have a curry or stick a bit of banghra d&b on the stereo. Or is music and food a part of culture we can appropriate? is the line just drawn at dressing up? I've been known to wear a kufi, it keeps the sun off my bald spot, Is that OK? No Muslim friends have complained...
Explain the rules...I'm having pasta tonight and don't want to annoy any Italians. Braids, who can and can't wear them?

Make it make sense. It doesn't. There's barely a culture today that isn't a smashed together version of 10 other cultures. |

No, I think dressing up as a Native American is not a good look. And I think if we don’t do it, it doesn’t mean we won’t develop as people. native Americans know better not to be on this tbh, they got better things to think about other than dressing up for y'all looking like Pocahontas like yall expect
Nobody said there were any here. I'd bet they wouldn't care if someone did dress up a a stereotype of them though. It's very nearly always someone sticking their oar in on behalf of other cultures when it comes to offence at cultural appropriation.
No. It isn’t usually this though is it. The outrage usually comes from within the affected community.
Is eminem still good? How about MdotR?
Make it make sense. It doesn't. There's barely a culture today that isn't a smashed together version of 10 other cultures.
You haven’t had friends complain therefore people from that community don’t complain is giving ‘my black friends let me say it.’ "
Still no actual explanation. Either cultures remain sacrosanct museum pieces, preserved under glass never to mix with others and only to evolve internally, or everyone takes others cultures a bit..if it isn't either of those two options, then you're just telling me what you personally think which means nothing.
You're unable to tell me where the line is.
We live in a multicultural society, but somehow can't mix them?
Still Nobody is making sense with a sensible explanation of where this line is, what we can and can't take from each other, or why cultures now suddenly have to stop drawing from each other.

"I'm sure I have native American ancestors, always played as a redskin when younger, not a cowboy ever
White warrior David
Ps tried to sort a re enactment in a secluded area but no takers, I want to bite the dust like the movies, anyone for fun????"
Ian Astbury from The Cult had similar notions back in the day. Turns out he had no native blood at all though.. |
