Talking to the Dead
Jump to: Newest in thread
So called Artificial Intelligence has created a chatbot allowing those grieving to speak to the dead. You pass a profile to the program and it answers your questions. As well contacting relatives presumably it would allow the user to contact a famous dead person. Who would you contact ? A celebrity or sportsman or historical figure. What's going on here? It's all over the news... |

It’s not artificial intelligence… Intelligence requires conciseness and as artificial conciseness does not exist artificial intelligence does not exist.
What you are saying is no more than machine learning.
However you would have to load any type application/algorithm with all the nuances of that person to come anywhere near a replication of them.

"I can see a point in the future where people replicate their deceased relative or loved one"
Would they have their memories and same personality or would they be like a newborn? |

I guess wealthy people would have some kind of software that closely replicated their personality and AI could 'learn' memory. What would happen to the replica when the partner died? |

I can't even write his name as it turns my stomach but I would hope the machine would 'fix it for me'
to speak to this vile individual and tell the evil fucker that everyone knows your past and the game is up. |

If technology develops so much that we can recreate someone's brain exactly as it was before they died, then it might convince me. But it's lame to recreate someone's persona based on social media profile. |

"I’d contact my stepdad and ask him how the hell he put up with my mum.
I think I'd be aiming for somebody like Jesus. Might as well get the full story "
I don’t think it works for people who didn’t exist in the first place, that’s proper AI |

Nah it’s useless at the moment. I don’t think it’s healthy for grief either - eventually it’s important to accept that someone has gone.
However, I do think it’ll have its uses in the future. Imagine something is collecting data on your every thought, feeling, emotion, relationship, achievement, event, meal, song played, picture drawn, note made, text sent, holiday taken, friend spoken to etc etc etc.
Eventually that would be able to make a pretty accurate and realistic representation of someone. One that could even predict how that person would respond. That would be pretty cool for keeping important “minds” alive for future reference. |
