Then stop watching the news, I haven’t watched the news in years, haven’t a fucking clue what’s going on, never been happier, it’s all bullshit and shit stirring anyway.

I agree. I don’t watch the news and try to ignore the radio too. I’m happier for it, and if I do find out, I don’t have a twisted already formed opinion thank to the journalists

Just watch the little "and finally" stories they tack on at the end of the report to cheer you up after 30 mins of chaos and misery

Most people lap it up and love the drama, especially people on forums lol. Besides, positive news don't sell over hate

I stopped watching and listening to the news during lockdown - couldn't cope with the MH hit.. Now I'll occasionally listen to R4, or dip into headlines on bbc app... But i control what i expose myself to... Its working better for me

I ask Alexa every morning to tell me some good news (some of which decidedly isn’t good -

Like McDonald’s making a huge profit or something was one the other day and I was like ????!) but it’s entertaining usually AND I ask her to tell me something fun.

I’ve not interacted with any news for a long time unless it comes into my awareness via other people and it’s so bad I can’t help but get sucked in - but my mental health takes a dive.

I only function in the world by staying in my bubble.

Sacked the news years ago, only bad news gets viewers and the fuckers don’t half drag it out.

Nothing happening today so we’ll go to our cocktail editor in Benidorm to repeat what I’ve just said, which is fuck all arrrrrrrrrrgh

Just week a weekly digest of the news. This way most of the hysteria, hate and rubbish makes way for a few facts.

Heard a podcast today refer to TV news shows as wrestling for adults

I avoid watching the news and choose wireless station at work that has no news for that exact reason it’s depressing as fuck it’s easier to live in your own little bubble never hearing the shit in the world, very little of it effects us directly anyway so no use getting worked up hearing it

Don’t watch the news then.

I gave up watching news programmes years ago. Now I just scan the papers so I know what is going on in the world.

There was a newspaper I used to read called "positive news" about 20 years ago. An interesting concept..

Last year I had a strict media blackout for months, you would not know the benefit for your wellbeing. However I slipped back into checking news when Israel was attacked last year and retaliated. I will be trying another blackout soon though, it all chips away at you otherwise

You don’t have to get wrapped up in social media

Most news is just click bait - it is a ratings game and bad news sells. Step away from the daily news and switch to reading/watching weekly summaries for a more nuanced view.

Can’t remember the last time I watched the news or read a newspaper for this very reason

Hate?

My concern with regard to news programmes isn’t the spreading of hate, it’s the hyping up of danger, making every news story sound as though it might be the end of the world

But yeah, some people love the drama and feast on bad news or potential bad news

No, but these days most people need a smart phone. Which automatically locks you into the 24hour international news feed AND people’s social media
