Paper Town Central, Essex.

I wouldn't go as far as saying a lady driver is a better driver, but I honestly believe that they are as equally good.

I know a few superb lady drivers that would put most male drivers to shame, and likewise male drivers that shouldn't even be on the road..

However, the gender of the driver that I actually asked to stop the car and let me out, as I didn't feel safe as a passenger, was female...

My Mum!

But for the sake of balance, I know I'm bloody good at parallel parking. It's like gender isn't the reason for whether some people are good at something that others are not as good at.

I'm hopeless at drawing pictures, for example. Absolutely useless.

You've never met my landlady then. She's knucking futz with respect to driving.

She never wears a seat belt. But because she had an accident years ago. Has not a lot of sensation in her feet. Hence she can't really feel the pedals. Consequently, her driving is similar to being on a roller coaster imho.

We are all individuals and have our own capabilities. I’m a pretty good driver but my wife is outstanding.

In terms of generalisations, men and women are more likely to have different types of accidents. Low-speed, low-impact bumps and knocks are more likely to be caused by women drivers. And high-speed “driving like an arsehole” accidents are more likely to be men.

"Todge...... tsk. I thought this was going to be about golf..... obvs!"

Fair point. Having reread the opening post, it could easily refer to golf.

Women are far more likely to keep it on the fairway. Their lower clubhead speed makes wild shots much less likely, and most women players play within themselves, cautiously.

Men are likely to hit it further and are also more likely to miss the fairway due to higher clubhead speed, playing more aggressively, and trying to leather it.

There are exceptions, of course. One of the longest and most accurate hitters at my club is a woman, fantastic swing

Fuck me .......'timidity' is your term not mine.

For some strange reason you notice 'timid' slow WOMEN when you are out driving.

What drives your bias ?

Some people are not very good drivers - that's all that can be said.

See.....if I was out driving , i'd see a CAUTIOUS person at a roundabout.

Serious Q ...... What does labelling women as timid, without any supporting evidence, do for you personally ?

No rant expected he.

Eve is driving now and is a great driver but fuck me she drives like a rally driver at times and terrifies me at times.

Last year I was driving a woman’s car and as I hit the autoroute I jokingly said 2nd 3rd 4th as I went through the gears.

When I got to 6th she said I haven’t 6 gears and boy was she shocked when I slipped onto 6th gear.

She’d had the car 3 years oh how we laughed.

If there are LESS accidents because of 'timid' women at roundabouts it follows that there are MORE accidents because of wreckless male drivers.

If there are LESS accidents because of the way women drive then this must be the CORRECT way to drive. To drive safely..... To drive considerately... to actually CARE about preserving life MORE than if our dick looks bigger if we fail to stop or give way .....

I know. I was simply stating what I took from his message … he seemed to be suggesting that some women drivers aren’t just cautious, they are overly-cautious. Presumably he got annoyed sitting behind a driver who he felt was holding him up by pulling out when he thought it would have been safe to. He chose to describe this behaviour as timid. He did … not me!

"Equally as proficient and capable as men…. Just saying

Ok how many we’re expecting a rant??

We are all individuals and have our own capabilities. I’m a pretty good driver but my wife is outstanding.

In terms of generalisations, men and women are more likely to have different types of accidents. Low-speed, low-impact bumps and knocks are more likely to be caused by women drivers. And high-speed “driving like an arsehole” accidents are more likely to be men.

Agree with this, timidity at roundabouts tends to be a female trait I would say, but again, less accidents because of it

"

Statistically (according to insurance company data) women have a disproportionately higher number of accidents at roundabouts than men. Information from incident reports suggest this is largely due to indecisiveness when entering a roundabout.

Granny the statistics show that women have more accidents but the accidents they have cost less to repair so on that basis they given women cheaper insurance, so agreed men are wreckless drivers although I've never had an accident or claim in my whole driving career, hope this helps "

Similar to what I posted above. Women more likely to have a bump in a carpark or low-speed town knock. Men more likely to be driving like an arsehole and have a high-speed collision, which is a more expensive insurance risk.

As you say, statistically women have more accidents but men cause more serious damage.

And once again, there are of course individual exceptions.

When someone says TIMID. I read it as TIMID - I don't interpret it for them.

e.g. if you said FAF Granny. I wouldn't read that as I love you granny let's get married.

He said .... TIMID

I know he said timid. Why is that such a trigger?

Why are you so wound-up by the word timid? Genuine question. I wasn’t aware that it could be so offensive.

It was a survey of data fro 125000 road accidents in uk by online insurance broker elephant.co.uk .

It also confirmed that male drivers accidents were generally more serious and likely to be crashing into something head on.

Yeah I saw that one.

Also, rac had a star saying that men are 3 times more likely to be involved in an accident involving a pedestrian.

In summary, women are more likely to dent your front wing, men are more likely to kill you.

These are simple stats, not some biased pigeonholing aimed at making either men or women look bad. It’s just what the numbers show

Really? No intention of making either men or women look bad? So why, when you acknowledge men are more dangerous drivers, (more likely to be involved collisions involving fatalities) did you choose to criticise only women for being "timid".

I wouldn't say that's expressing a balanced view. Would you?

Simple stats become something else when you only focus on one half of the situation.

Still, you've acknowledged that men are more dangerous drivers than women now, at least.

Unless you're going to try to argue being more likely to kill people doesn't make them more dangerous?

Please show me where I criticised some drivers or described them as timid.

The word timid was posted by someone else.

As for being “more dangerous”, again, please show me where I said women are more dangerous. I said they are more likely to have accidents, but they are more likely to be low-impact, and I posted that men are more likely to have high-speed accidents they kill people.

Please stick to what I have actually posted instead of making things up.

The wording I went with above was that men are more likely to “drive like arseholes”.

Yes, men are more prone to impetuous stupidity and bravado than dithering.

In my opinion, and from what I experience on a daily basis, women are not bad drivers, but are easily distracted, I see countless women scrolling on their phones whilst driving everyday, but very few men that do it.

Again, straight into generalisations.

“Finally admitted”? From the very start, I posted that work are more likely to have low-impact accidents and men were more likely to drive like arseholes and have more serious accidents.

Admitting men are more likely to "drive like arseholes" is not the same as recognising they are more dangerous.

It's actually a pretty dismissive way to describe being involved in more fatal accidents and an attempt to minimise that they're more dangerous.

Meanwhile trying to justify the use of timid as an attack on women drivers, even though you recognise women have more minor bumps but do less damage and kill fewer people.

And I can assure you that plenty of women drivers are not remotely "timid" or "dithering".

Stop being sexist.

Yes, true.

But some men cannot resist grabbing hold of a tired, untrue, sexist stereotype to insult women.

And some people cry sexism when presented with simple facts , insurance data etc

No one has presented any data.

Data I can handle.

Huggy mentioned a website but no data

And certainly NO facts"

Moreso. I am a Fabulous driver. I can do ALL the reversing, even down granite lined Cornish lanes and those Welsh ones with boggy ravines each side of them. I even know how to give way at Islands and junctions and stop at correct traffic lights which half of all people seem not to bother with anymore.

My theory: women who drive (especially bus/coach drivers) appear, on average, to be better drivers than men. However, I suspect the reason is that women who are not good drivers tend to avoid driving, but that men who are bad drivers tend to do so anyway!

More men pass their driving test first time. Less women pass their driving test first time.

Most INSTRUCTORS are men.

Men drivers cause over 4,000 pedestrian deaths per year

Women cause over 1,000 pedestrian deaths per year.

Depsite passing their test first time, men go on to drive recklessly and pay no attention to rules etc.

Women on the other hand pass their test second or third time but prove to be far more cautious and considerate on the road.

A survey for the road safety charity Brake in 2020 found men were three times more likely to drive above the speed limit than women. Nearly 30% of male drivers admitted having driven above 100mph –

From the Guardian

“Education isn’t going to solve things on its own. But in the meantime, these figures that demonstrate that particular segments of society are offending, or involved in more casualties than others, enable us to target campaigns – like Road Safety Week – at those parts of society, and to help our sons, husbands, or partners to prioritise safety.”
