Nearing 70, I’m considering my first tattoo. I’ve rejected the idea before as I have always disliked the old blurry blue ones where it’s difficult to ascertain the subject matter. The one I’m considering is 2 snakes going down from my navel to the base of my dick, they’re to be formed from the family names of my parents and will be intertwined like the dna double helix. Any hoo the longevity is a bit less important now considering my age, but I was wondering if there are any colours I should avoid, especially as I spend as much time as I can, naked in the sun. UV being a cause of fading I think. That’s it, anyone have any advice, knowledge of the subject?

UV rays do cause tattoos to fade but sunscreen blocks UV rays so if you apply sunscreen to the tattoo when you’re in the sun then it will be fine. I don’t think it matter what colours you choose, they will all be affected in the same way I think, I’m not totally sure about that though, maybe darker colours will take longer to completely fade just because they’re more visible.

Do you know that you can get tattoos ‘touched up’ when they start to fade so that they look like new again? So you could have got some when you were younger and had them touched up when they started to fade.

Yeah, just found out about being able to touch tattoos up, not sure it would have made a difference though, I was quite inhibited when younger. I’m not sure if it’s the same for everyone, but as I’ve got older I have lost those inhibitions and become much less judgmental. Anyway, thanks for the advice
