Tipperary

My eldest informed me, 15 mins before he had to leave for school that he had to dress up for book day today!!

I put him in a fluffy Grinch jammies and sent him on his way

If you had the same situation, who could you dress them up as using what you already have at home?

Maybe I'm been mean but I would have sent them in their uniform. Teach them a lesson in life, you should have told me sooner.

Send them in normal clothes and get them to tell people they have come as the main character from their diary.

Pretty much exactly what we did, but with prior notice! She's wearing a generic mermaid outfit she already had and is whichever mermaid she finds in the book corner

Why do they do these things to us?!

She has a few different costumes tucked away in her wardrobe from previous years in case of emergencies. It would be a recycled outfit.

It used to be easy because he used to have all the superhero costumes but he's 12 now and that's not cool

I’d let the kid stay home and tell everyone they went as The Invisible Man.

24 years ago, I had the same dilemma with my 6yr old. So, we scraped together a pair of his dad's white chino's with the bottoms turned up, my red satin embroidered waistcoat [don't judge me...it was the 90's lol], an old white sheet cut up to make a turban, his white PE Tshirt, and his slippers. And our chrome teapot pretended to be a magic lamp for the day

I see your point but as a child who's had that happen before I won't do it to mine

Yes that's a fair point.

We will sort something out this time, but give me more warning next time or you won't be as lucky.

At least wrap a bin bag around their uniform and give them a wooden spoon.

Use your imagination Harry Potter

Bram Stokers Dracula

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein

Conan Doyle’s Hound of the Baskervilles.

Harry Potter as we have everything from when my eldest did it years ago. Little one is fairly easy nowadays as the books he reads are older the characters don't really wear anything special.
