No, not FAF. You filthy lot.*

I’m talking about faffing.

I didn’t need to rush to work this morning so I took my sweet time and had a long, hot shower. I waited for the sun to come up and walked the dog for longer. I made a pot of good coffee. And I spent time reading the Fab forums.

What does faffing mean to you? What do you do when you faff for a while?

.

.

.

(*I’m open to FAF suggestions too, though.)

La la land

To me it's when you've actually finished a job or task. But then go back to it for some unbeknown reason, until you've wasted loads of time and gained very little.

All over

Just adding another f to faff on a serious note, just a coffee and a nice slice of toast or a croisant as the case is today as felt a little decadent.

I can faff in the garden for hours, with no particular visible results. I live alone and faff about most of the day

Work faff for me is doing stuff to make the job last longer (can tell I'm on day rate not price).

For example needed to tidy up toolbox to make space, this turned into making a self which had a special compartment to keep my travel mug in just to stop it being knocked over. And rather than a rush bodge job did proper skilled work just to pass the time

I get the garden thing. 100%. I go out there with a plan to do an important task and stop to do something else. Then something else catches my eye and so I deal with that. Then another thing. And then it’s getting dark already and I haven’t done the thing I went out there to do.

"Just adding another f to faff "

Oh, I’ve been guilty of sending Fab messages with that extra F before. ‘Fancy A Friday Fumble?’ and all that …

Sounds like the ideal start to a Friday.

For me, faffing means mucking about with something way more than you need to. Sadly, I do that more often than I'd like

Faffing around to me means I’m busy doing nothing

I’m probably faffing right now

I nip out to fill the bird feeders, see a few flowers in pots that need dead heading, then start moving pots around, brush up the mess created........hours later its lunchtime

Being retired, every day can be a faffing day. Includes a lot of lounging around in pants, drinking coffee to excess and dicking around on this phone.

Tho today I have the excitement of replacing all the innards of my toilet cistern to look forward to.

Might take a while to work up to that.

In a fully booked, hard to get into Dr's surgery, I spent 30 mins in a near empty waiting room seeing only one person coming out, to have my ails be talked down for 10 mins, given advice to keep doing what I've been doing for the last however long, as there's 1 single treatment or nothing.. so including driving easily wasted an hour total. Fanks A Fuckinglot

Some sort of round bright thing in the sky, I don’t know as I haven’t seen much of it either!

When you have fixed yours, you might find the time in your retirement to travel the 400 miles plus to mine and figure out why mine keeps breaking

You see more of it than most of us with your travels! You’re not fooling me, sneaky.

So if being there in a jiffy is quick, I get there in a faffy.

I’m going into London today and promised myself I’d get in early. Walk to my goal slowly, pop in shops I never get to visit, take in the sights. I left waaaaay too late and now I’ll have to get the tube straight there

Yes please

Oh, wrong faf

I spend lots of time faffing, to me it's taking forever to do the things that need doing, ya know the boring stuff. Usually because I'm quite easily distracted by pretty things

Faffed waiting for a parcel to come in, but making another coffee and munching some liquorice allsorts means I’m still faffing.

I’ll use the excuse I’m still suffering with my cold and go do stuff after that coffee

(Fancy a Friday Fumble is one I’ll need to try and remember - if only)

For context: I injured my back last week and only returned to work yesterday. (I'm a self employed gardener)

I woke up this morning, looked at the rain and decided to wait until it stopped to head out.

I started pottering around the house, emptied and restacked the dishwasher, put on some laundry, cleaned the kitchen... its been sunny for the last 2 1/2 hours and I'm still in my pajamas, lollopping around the house...

I guess I'll go back to work on Monday...
