A comment on another thread made me think - Do people really believe that?
Am I in the minority of one that think cranial expenditure, white collar employment and intellectual problem solving is also work? |

"Don't expect a sensible answer for those who think manual work is real work."
I have no problem in classing blue collar employment as work but in this day and age its becoming less and less common. I was just smiling at the _iewpoint that its not real work unless its manual with a spanner or hammer in hand. |

Absolutely, as is singing, acting and other 'arty' professions.
Its just that those who do manual work usually class themselves as 'real men' as opposed to 'pretend men' who dont.
I go to work every week for 40 hours and get paid for doing begger all. I sit at a desk, cross and uncross my legs, file my nails and re touch my lippy. Its heaven.

"manual gives you bigger guns. and stronger firmer legs. "
Not always so as the manual labour often is the sort that doesn't build up physical mass it just is the sort that burns calories. Often its the white collar guy who has the time, money and energy after work to go to the gym to get that six pack and achieve good body definition. |

I worked as a builder for 15 years which was hard work, then drove taxis for 5 years, which although not physical work was very tiring mentally through having to concentrate constantly while driving, but not matter what profession it is some people will always claim to work harder than others |

"Who works harder - the man who designs the bridge or the man who builds it?
The answer is they both work hard, just in different ways. "
It's the poor bugger that has to do all the rowing until they build it. |

"ive been unemployed for 3 months .. thats hard work "
Sadly looking for employment can be far more stressful and time consuming than working in one. I hope your search is fruitful in the next three. |

You need both kinds of worker. Both kinds are still 'work' and worthy. |
