I have an ammonite fossil around 180 million years old.
On a more mundane level, I have several books dating from the 19th century - the oldest from the 1820s. I also own a cutlass salvaged from a shipwreck off the Eastern Cape coast in South Africa in about 1820. Oh, and inherited from from my wife, who had an archaeology degree, I have Nabatean coins from Petra in Jordan, from the reign of King Aretas (c10-40 CE) and a "Widow's Mite" - a small copper coin from late 1st Century CE Judaea.

"I’ve got a fossilised shark tooth that’s about 10 million years old or so
Theres several been mentioned on here- how do you know they are authentic? Just musing?"
I picked the fossilised ammonite up in the rocks on the beach at Staithes, near Whitby, which is famous for them.
I have the provenance for the cutlass (my family came from Port Elizabeth on the South East coast of South Africa). I bought my wife the coins with certificate and provenance from an antiquities dealer in Oxford.
The books have dates in, and are patently old. |
