Too many films

Many film franchises go to the well too many times. I could quite happily live with two Ghostbusters films. Did The Godfather really need a part 3? And what's with all the Fast and the Furious films?

What franchises do you think went too far and when do you think they should have stopped?

Robocop and Terminator. Neither needed any more films after the second one.

"Robocop and Terminator. Neither needed any more films after the second one."

James Cameron always did want Terminator 2 to be the end. I recommend watching the directors cut.

But of course film companies want the possibility of a sequel.

Bond did well over the years to reinvent the character the Madonna of the film world. I didn’t think much of the new Top Gun film as predicted another one is now on the cards, as it was successful. A character has no longer an arc, the accountants decide if they should live or die as a sequel would be off the cards.

I think the Indiana Film series should’ve ended after the third one with his Dad. The recent versions are just a sad demise of a great character.

Or after the first one, same as Alien, Pedator, Scream, Matrix, Blade, Highlander, Warlock, Hellraiser & Jurassic Park

Dusk Till Dawn films, the new Planet of the Apes, Saw, Die Hard 4 & 5, Godzilla, Star Wars after Jedi, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Titanic 2 , the Transformers, Leprechaun, John Wick, the Hunger Games, Maze Runner, the Hobbit, The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, Bourne, X-Men, Mission Impossible, Pirates of the Carribbean.....

I disagree with the FAST & FURIOUS franchise.

If you look at them as exercises in “how to get progressively more ridiculous” , they’re good fun.

TERMINATOR - No good ones after the sequel

ALIEN - The less you know, the scarier it is

HALLOWEEN - The same as Alien

PREDATOR - Hit ‘n miss

DIE HARD - They forgot what made the franchise special.

MARVEL - Their success taught them the wrong lessons.

INDIANA JONES - Should’ve stopped at the third

UNPOPULAR OPINION...

Star Wars was never great

Ep.4 - Groundbreaking

Ep.5 - One of the best sequel ps of all time

Ep.6 - A disappointment with a great ending

Everyone hated the Prequels at the time.

Ep.7 - Showed promise , but was completely unoriginal.

And the rest suck.

The girl with the dragon tattoo was part of a trilogy of books. There’s a story arc. How can you not make all 3?

I really liked Rogue One. Best of all the movies apart from the original three imo...

Thought the death of Paul Walker would have ended the franchise there and then. Now I'm expecting Vin Diesel to drive a DeLorian and go back in time at some point. Films are getting more ridiculous like you said

Worthing

Could have done without Escape, Battle and Conquest Apes films. 2001 one was fair. Last 3 very good. First 2 were the best though.

Yep, those American folk really like to milk a film franchise, just like they never know when to conclude a TV series.

Yeah, so, John Wick 4, absolute garbage. It besmirches 1 and 2.

Indiana Jones. Should've just done the first one.

Top Gun 2. Tripe.

The Hobbit. Why more than one film? Oh yeah, greed.

Any action franchise that involves men over 50 years of age running (I use that word loosely) and jumping around and fighting multiple baddies like they were still in their prime. You look stupid. Yes Liam Neeson, I'm taking to you specifically. Mr Stallone, Arnie you too. Amongst others.

Tom, you still look good doing your action scenes at 60 odd but I don't believe you're still doing your own stunts and that last Mission Impossible was too long, there was no need for a part 2 as everything could've been resolved in the 3 hours. Just milking the paying public (not me, I illegally download if not free on Prime, Netflix or Disney+)

In fact, many franchises are like this post, way too long and fleshed out!

I don’t disagree with this tbh. Although Rogue One was good
