Parkrun - Removal of Course Records

So what do those who attend PR think of the changes made by PR organisers?
I personally think it has been a knee jerk reaction, although some could argue that PR was never intended to be a race so why have records.

I only caught a glimpse of it on Nick F’s breakfast show and he’s known to sensationalise. Sounded like Trans people were getting the blame from the short clip.
As long as they keeping individual records so people can monitor their improvements I don’t see an issue. |

"So what do those who attend PR think of the changes made by PR organisers?

From the beeb
Parkrun says it has removed data such as speed records from its website to be less "off-putting" to new entrants.
It will no longer publish data including most first finishes, sub-17 minute men and sub-20 minute women, and age grade or category records.
Parkrun says it is working to "find ways to remove barriers to registration and participation".
It comes amid criticism it has faced for allowing transgender women to participate in the female category.
In December, think tank Policy Exchange said its analysis found that at least three Parkrun female records are held by transgender women

It’s parkrun so I honestly don’t think records matter. Just keep your own times
Does seem weird that trans women were allowed to have their records recorded with women’s, but overall they should just scrap all records because it’s not that serious an event and participation feels more important than representation or records |

"It only matters now because men are upset. Didn't seem to be a problem when women were pissed off about records. Hey ho. "
I assume it may have been the 3 females who complained about their records being that resulted in the change? |

"I just don’t understand why they can’t just list the course records as ungendered. That way no one can complain and no one loses their achievements. "
Because by providing a listing you’ll still have the vast majority of the best tunes held by men, which means women won’t feel represented when they need to scroll all the way down to find the first woman recorded. |

Of course all the problems are caused by trans women. Why don't they just ban us entirely from something that is not even supposed to be a competitive event, that'll save the feelings of a few butt-hurt people (who I can almost guarantee are only making a fuss because it gives them an excuse to hammer trans women). Better still, why don't they just ban us entirely from public life, or send us all to Rwanda? Just in case one of us does something that is exceptional in any way, because god forbid that a trans woman have any category in which she is allowed to be exceptional. Or even if we do something entirely normal? Just in case, I don't know, my trans breathing offends somebody.
PS. I don't park run. These days I'm pretty well avoaiding anything that might bring me to the attention of the haters and fuckwits out there. |

How awful, having to scroll…
At least this way every gender is represented and it’s more of a level playing field |

These are the categories for Parkrun. "All runners can continue to choose whether to register as 'female', 'male', 'prefer not to say' or 'another gender identity'"
A few transwomen are choosing to run as female notwithstanding that and hold women's records. That, as I understand it, is the issue that has been raised and this is Parkrun's response. |

It’s not even just that you can search for random people. So for example if my mate runs at stretford and I run at Fulham, both are local but our main park run, I can see how he gets on l, and him the same due to the removal of search function
Though must say I got a paldendine achievement yesterday |

Why is there a need to record and display times at all?
If people want to time themselves then that’s up to them, they can do it just the same as most do when they are out running on their own.
It doesn’t matter what time Joe/Joanne Blogs is doing, if you are improving on your own performance and getting your own times down isn’t that what counts. |

I've just had my 5 year parkrun birthday at the weekend. I've been the sub 30 runner plus now, due to Long Covid, the 30 plus runner now.
I think keeping the records is important. It's wonderful to celebrate the fastest records plus the slowest runners too.
Regardless of pace, parkrunners and parkwalkers should all be celebrated and be proud of achievements.
I do believe that teans men and ladies should be recorded as either trans men or trans ladies, separately from men and women. We all know the difference biologically and do feel it unfair a biological man that has transitioned to a woman should run in that category plus vice versa.
The removal of records is unfair in my opinion. Let's not diminish their records or of any others x |
