"Sad news just released HRH King Charles is being treated for cancer.
"
Hope he's got some years left in him and they're pain free.
Fingers crossed for HRH.
And of course to anyone else who's suffering this absolute cunt of a thing. |

I guess he will have started treatment immediately simply because he's the king |

"Pity the rest of the country don't get the same speed and quality of care " I started treatment within three weeks of diagnosis twice the hospital has rung to ask if I could arrive early for my chemo because people just haven't turned up for their appointments. Last week three out of five people were no shows bloody disgraceful when people are waiting to start treatment wishing King Charles a speedy recovery |

I think treatment is pretty swift for most when it's cancer that can be identified / treated, but yes, i agree that he has probably been afforded priority treatment as King
I think the bigger, positive, impact is that by going public with the diagnosis and treatment, it will encourage other men to be tested and hopefully have any issues identified earlier, so they too can get treatment |

He's the King. I don't expect him to be on a waiting list for anything."
I do, along with anyone in government...maybe then the NHS wouldn't be in the shit show mess it is.
My parents both have some medical issues currently, trying to even get a GP appointment is near impossible, my dad has been waiting 3 months so far for some treatment, only to find somebody didn't submit the form correctly...the current waiting time for an appointment is apparently 10 months!
Pretty sure Charlie boy didn't have that problem. |

I think we can all agree the king is more important that just any regular pleb.
I think he deserves the best treatment and as fast as possible.
His death would probably result in far more emotional trauma for the country than cancers ever caused |

That’s incredibly disrespectful to anyone that’s lost a loved one to cancer. I value my family more than anyone else in the world. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t. |

I think if you expect the King of England to "wait in line" your expectations may outlive you.
Politicians, I'm kind of with you there.
Let's not derail an otherwise respectful thread with politics though. There's a forum for that. |

Yes, the deliberate eradication of the NHS, built of public taxes, to enable its privatisation or total collapse so we end up in an American insurance driven system, where few can afford decent care, is disgusting. |

Anyone would be started quickly.
Obviously, normal checks etc but location and treatment protocols are very quick.
Its then up to the patient to decide.
Hopefully, he will have a good outcome.

I'm always curious why people are told to "beat" cancer but no other disease or illness. You never hear "he beat measles" or "she beat pneumonia"."
He is a king so he will have people to beat whatever he wants them to beat and anyway Harry is on his way so all will be good.

So a pampered entitled leech gets cancer and suddenly everyone is a royalist.
Millions around the world live with and are treated for cancer every day. They don't get the same attention, or the same level of treatment. He is no better than anyone else, he may think he is due to who is womb he dropped out of, but he's not special.

Take a deep breath and just enjoy your day pal. Get your blood pressure checked out while you're at it.
If you think that the King (he didn't choose the womb) isn't likely to get private treatment then you're deluded.... I also get private treatment because of my position, doesn't make me a leech |

Im sure normal people who bothered getting private healthcare would also be seen as quick and treated with quality of care. I paid 27 quid a month for my private healthcare and they whipped my gallbladder full of stones out within 10 days of diagnosis wth Private room in a nuffield hospital. For the price of 6 beers or a couple of packet of fags, 8 costa coffees or that takeaway, us plebs down here on the ground can also have the same care. |

I didn't have to wait long for my appointment with the breast clinic when I had a problem. From seeing my GP to surgery was about 5/6 weeks.
I didn't wait long for my gallbladder surgery either.
I may not have got room service during either of these operations, or stayed in a 5 star room, but the medical side of it would be the same as private payers.

That’s horrible news. I hope that he recovers quickly, he will definitely get the best care.
For those commenting about his birthright and such; yes he gets privileges based on the ‘luck’ of his birth. Just as we all do from being born in this country. Unless you’re going to up sticks, give your money to charity and dive into a shanty slum somewhere, you’re also living with privilege and benefit from it daily. Don’t be so quick to point fingers |

I shouldn't laugh
I wish him well and anyone facing similar, but let's not for one moment think he is going through this the same way as us minions. For one thing he'll have access to the best care and drugs (no postcode lottery). He hasn't got income worries. He hasn't got financial concerns for those he leaves (eventually) behind. If he were to be in hospital for a long period, he wouldn't get benefits cut. I'm sure he'll survive whatever this is. And due to his privilege, it's unlikely he has a myriad of co-morbidities that others have due to poor nutrition/housing and so. He has familial longevity on his side from both parents. |

I think people grossly underestimate the effect this will have nationally at a time when things are pretty bad anyway. The monarchy is symbolic of so much regardless of who currently represents it. You only need look at the reaction to the late queen's death and prior to that Princess Diana.
This has made the news internationally too.
Individually we all have our opinions but it will affect the national mood and that is quite important |

It was interesting that the Palace realised there was a lack of 'younger' royals to take some of the King's duties too, and were having to look to Anne and Edward again. |

Chemotherapy makes you extremely sick and fragile regardless of wealth. Maybe you have watched too much South Park and think melting down cash and injecting it into their veins gives them better chemo
Cancer kills regardless of wealth.
It's not a race to the bottom.
Watching people close to me die from Cancer, I wouldn't ever say its easier for someone. You can be mega rich and still suffer from pain, sickness, depression etc.
That's including nhs and private care. It's such a narrow minded and uncompassionate view. Do you feel the same about your favourite celebrities? And all wealthy people in general?

Some might say that's a sick joke, I don't: I see that differently.
Bowel and prostate and testicular cancer affects a lot of men, who far too often, leave it too late. Because its-down-there-ewww!
This procrastination needs to stop and appealing to the competitive nature, racing is pretty primeval and universal, something the fragile male ego understands.
"Race to the bottom" should be used by all the relevant charities advertising campaigns, to persuade men into not procrastinating and getting checked out now, not later.
Look how "Stand up to cancer" works as a brand/slogan. |

They do.
As a medic and someone just been through surgery, chemo and radiotherapy the only real difference between NHS and private care is not speed of treatment but a better menu.
The vast majority of patients will be out patients, apart from a stay in hospital post surgery.
Radiotherapy and chemo is a nip into a cancer centre, maybe a daily 30 minutes in radiotherapy and your chemo sessions, as and when.
Sounds easy, in reality, its brutal.
But I'm through it and back at work and like most patients in about 18 months post surgery will be my new normal.
Hope everyone, including the King will end the cancer journey not too damaged.
Good luck to everyone who hears the dreaded word during consultation. |

I dont agree even though getting past triage is sometimes ridiculous and can take 3 days as soon as my partner was diagnosed with clots in her lungs and abdomen she was treated and put on a regimen of care that was out of this world thanks NHS |

""Pity the rest of the country don't get the same speed and quality of care "

"That’s horrible news.
Don’t be so quick to point fingers "
Nah. The privilege of being a royal is in no way comparable to the privilege of not living in a slum. By this logic you can't complain about anyone's preferential treatment unless you're the poorest, most disadvantaged person in the world.
I don't wish Charles any harm but it's completely reasonable to be against the unearned privilege he has. |
