Our automatic is close on 15yrs old. Think it cost us about £300. That was expensive then, but it's used most days. It's the hardest working thing in our house

That's a very good point, washing machines get through some hard core work in an average household.

I think you can get some very cheap machines if you look hard enough by the way Op....

I had to get an intergrated one shopped about and got one for £280 which Isuppose aint that bad

I only buy second hand, cannot afford to and refuse to pay the extortionate prices charged these days especially as they don't last. Often a repair can be so much that its cheaper to just buy another machine. My last machine was given to me, is okay though I have to hold the door to get it started but it doesn't leak so not a problem
