I read that the phrase about diamonds, dates back to when women and their properties, became the property of the husband when they married. It said that jewellery was exempt, and the woman could keep that as her own property. So diamonds being of high value, they were a good investment for a woman to aquire. Not sure if it is true.

Ooooooh me too, I love to look at other peoples jewellery. I can watch jewellery channels for hours and not buy a thing. Love the designs, cuts, gems etc.

I am different with shoes though If they look nice, feel nice and fit the foot... I am afraid they are coming home with me. Most of the time

Hell, you and I may be from the same gene pool. I own shoes I have never worn. Luckily, matching handbags don't hold the same appeal

I have a large IKEA storage box under my bed for my toys, another one for my outfits and an entire cupboard which I got a joiner to fit out with shelves for my shoes.

Who the feck needs diamonds?? (I have some of those too - but you need a microscope to see them!)

Sorry to dissapoint but "Diamond are a girls best friend" was a marketing campaign by DeBeers and at the same time created the trade name "Forevermark" even today they praise themselves for the best advertising campaign ever that became an institution.....now like everyone else they are moving out of the UK with all their operations going to Botswana .

"I am partial to a sparkler myself "

I used to be partial too and have a few family diamonds I cherish. These days, being aware of the hellish conditions the miners endure, rather kills the delight and I am happy to make do with fakes - just as sparkly !

As Joan Rivers once said...

"If God had wanted women to bend over,

He'd have put diamonds on the floor..."

In Gabarone Botswana the conditions are good with the government spending (who have a third share) the money back in society on health care and education. In Canada the conditions are below freezing most of the year and equipment has to be driven out on ice roads but conditions are good inside the "moon base" apart from getting cabin fever

Admittedly South Africa and other rogue " blood Diamond" war zones conditions are poor but ensuring the diamonds have provenance can help
