"Have you ever been to a speed dating shennanigan?
"
Went once to keep an English friend company and it was terrible.
40 Single lonely French farmers and me and four women of which I got to speak to one.
It felt horrible.

The smell of the burning sheep must have been awful. |

I only did one, got dragged there by a friend and the experience was not enjoyable. Didn't really "click" with anyone there...maybe it was not the right place, maybe I was not in the right "mood" for it (I was freshly out of a relationship). |

They burn sheep once and people just won’t let it lie.
To be fair they’re back blocking things again now and burning stuff but not sheep this time.

Only the UtB speed dating ice breaker, which was terrifying enough. My nerves definitely got the better of my mouth. Surprisingly, wittering on about ferrets up trouser legs actually works |

Yup twice. It was awful. Like holding 10 mini job interviews and actually pretty grim to see that you are actually left with the dregs of the dating pool..
I realise how harsh and shallow that makes me sound but it was my experience |

I did it a few times before I met taz.
First time I found it a headfuck, I didn't know what to expect from it.
The second time I knew what to expect so it wasn't to bad.
I never met anyone afterwards but it was a good experience |

Haha me? It’s an impossible proposition, I am so full of words and so socially isolated, when I find two willing ears in front of me, 5 minutes isn’t even going to get me over explaining all my faults (which is always my opening gambit on a date), heaven forbid the other person wants to speak. |

No. Well, not really. I did the UtB one once. Had one man just stare at my boobs for the allocated time. One lovely couple. Another man who told me all about his travelling.
I don't think speed dating is for me. |

"Judging from the thread it sounds like the only advantage over normal dating is that you get to the rejection stage faster?
Is it like the real world equivalent of the block button?"
It's a lot more efficient than online.
Just go in with a lighthearted attitude and not taking it too seriously.. |

The problem with online has always been that the profile they write tells you what they want others to see them as. It hardly tells you what they really are. This is why I avoid chatting for long and prefer real meeting over a drink or coffee. Speed dating takes you to that stage directly. |
