my hot water tank has sprung a leak and water pouring down my stairs, can anyone advise what to do please,ie, do i need to turn electicity off and water supply,

Try emptying the tank by turning on all your hot taps.

Might help.

You should be able to turn the water supply to the tank off. If its got immersion heater, isolate that too by turning it off.

Turn all your taps on to empty the tank and turn tour stopcock off.

there is a tap on the fill pipe to the tank and its jammed,cant move it for love nor money, just tried to contact my landlord and no answer

If you have some WD40 spray a bit on the tap and it might loosen it.

ive got the hot water tapped running, so ill just keep then open when it empties the tank so it dosnt fill up as cant get to the stop cock, turned the power off to the tank and punched a couple of small holes in the ceiling downstairs to relise the water thats trapped, thanks every for your invaluble help, what a great community

Turn your water tap off.. Should be in the kitchen somewhere .. Empty tank by turning hot taps on. Good luck

I m plumber you don't try to stop like this best is just turn off main tap it will b in the kitchen or basement that's all and open hot water for empty tank.if you can't find main tap just go str8 out on the road there is main supply just turn that off be care full make sure you got light with you

Ring the fire service they will come out and sort it for you and they will turn the main one off in ur street till you have it fixed hope everything's goes okayfor you and be careful x

I live very rural and as much as id llllllllllllove to ring the fire service out i couldnt do that as id be afraid they were needed elsewhere to save lives,so im getting in my car and driving to my lazy ass of a landload and banging on his door till he gets out of his nice cozy bed, thanks for your help xx
