I had a quote for over £2000 a few weeks back
No claims for the past ten years.
Last year it was £989.
Someone recommended Liverpool Victoria (lv.com) and I had a quote in for less than last year’s price. |

Just did mine yesterday, last year was £400 quoted £766, compared the market, changed providers and I'm paying £400.
I've no idea why these companies think they can nearly double your price and expect to keep you as a customer.
Another thing that makes me question what they are playing at is over the last 4-5 years I've just switched every year between Aviva and AXA and my premium has hardly changed but every year a renewal quote is massive |

Who did you go to, to get it to £400 again? |

I was with More Than, which is part of Royal Sun Alliance, one of the largest insurers in the world.
More Than have pulled out of UK car insurance so with my permission they passed my details on to Swinton, a broker who are also part of the Royal Sun Alliance group.
Swinton offered me a renewal quote at the end of December of £985 for a policy with Ageas, an increase of 70% on last year.
I shopped around and got a policy with Ageas for £450. I’m not sure why there’s such a difference in the price for a policy with the same insurer but I’m not complaining! |

None of mine have gone up by more than a few pounds, I did have to move two to different providers to keep them competitive, especially the defender.
Shop around. |

I was with AXA last year and now back with Aviva who I was with 2 years ago. |

I'm not condoning price increases, but there are many reasons why insurers increase their prices. The common 'excuse' is currently that the cost of parts and labour is increasing repair costs. However insurers also regularly change their views of who their 'target' customer base is so may increase renewal costs disproportionately for customers who no longer fit within their preferred criteria in a hope they'll shop elsewhere.
Don't forget also that many insurers offer a discount when you move to them, so renewal in the next year may well see another hike in costs.
Insurers are not supposed to treat existing customers 'worse' than new customers so it's worth taking them to task if you see the same policy for a cheaper price on a comparison site. Also consider reporting them to the FCA if you think they're not following the rules! |

"I'm just curious because mine has there asking twice as much this year even tho my circumstances hasn't changed."
Mine has not really changed for my car or motorcycle. No accidents or claims for the past 48 years |

My renewal was £830. Last year it was £390. I shopped around and got better cover for £370. Apart from a couple of windscreen claims, I've never had to claim on my insurance in 43 years. |

Fleet of 5 pickups, 6 flatbeds and 3 box vans - gone up 170 per vehicle. P.I. doubled, P.L. up a third. Small family business and the various insurances pushing 50K now. Clients asking us to reduce fees by 5-10%, another living wage increase coming = margin squeeze! |

Mine went up and it pissed me off, so I brought a different car. Believe it or not I had a mazda 5 I got shot of that and brought a jaguar same year. Insurance three hundred and odd quid a year cheaper. Work that out. |

It was in the news yesterday I think. How they calculated it is actually quite bad. So if you live in a area that is more ethically diverse your car insurance will be higher than an area with less. Worst part is that it has nothing to do with crime rates etc |

It’s always been like that. I worked in car insurance almost 40 years ago and anyone living in an inner city area paid much more than someone living in the suburbs, even then. |

Mine they wanted to double. Got into it with them and threatened to push for transphobia discrimination in their practises. Got escalated to a manager and ended up just having 40 pound increase.
Parasites some of these insurance underwriters |

Just tried to see if I can find better elsewhere rathen than the £300+ increase on tbe renewal quote. Ony one provider lower by £90 but not as good a cover. I think I will stay but try to see of they can better it a bit. It is ridiculous really when had no claims, protected bonus and all that kind of stuff |

Love everyone’s really cheap prices. I doubt I’ll ever get it tha cheap always been over a grand since I passed. But I do 12000 miles a year. I use my car a lot. So because I do school runs etc. they class me as higher risk as I’m in peak traffic. Madness really. I e never claimed on my insurance. I got rear ended. But again wasn’t my fault. But that made my insurance go up which isn’t fair. Renewal wanted 1800 I got it down to 1300 else where. Luckily my ex partner pays for mine. In space for child maintenance. But I still try and save him money.

"Last year £400. Quoted £980 this year. Changed provider and got insurance for £620. Never use go skippy. They are con merchants. I got charged £50 admin fee everytime I made a change. "
Always check the terms and conditions for admin fees etc. Some insurers are like Ryanair for admin charges, I personally avoid them! |

Think it was £350 last year but it went up nearly£200 I drive a car that’s an old banger over 20yrs old every year it’s costing nearly as much as the car is worth to insure I’ve not claimed in over 25yrs apparently I’m an higher risk because I drive a low value vehicle, I feel I’m subsidising others when I renew my insurance |

Have you thought about dropping to Third Party Fire and Theft cover or even Third Party Only? If the Comprehensive premium is more than the car is worth then it’s not worth paying the extra ££’s. |

I actually checked and it didn’t make a lot of difference, couple of years ago I was offered a job that involved delivering food, so enquirered about changing my insurance term to suit and to my surprise the quote was actually cheaper, also changed my car couple years ago old one was 1.9 non turbo diesel the replacement was 2.0 Litre hdi turbo so quite a difference in performance both cars looked exactly the same only visible difference was the 1.9 had a sun roof, both same age the 2.0hdi was cheaper to insure tho, motor insurance is just a massive con |
