I went when I was a child, and then again about ten years ago with my rowing crew. I don't remember much of it, I was rather d*unk most of the time.
I'm heading out there again next weekend, but sadly it's a flying visit for a one day conference. |

Only Belfast for a weekend, great place and showed about by a local, so that helped.
Also Dublin for about 5 hours, getting off a flight and waiting on another one, a whistle-stop your and a few Guinness.
My ancestry is Irish, so I'd love to go and explore that a bit more, plus there's some amazing golf courses there, so I need to tick them off my list.
My dad and his pals have been to Aran Mor Island away on the west coast a few times and it sounds great, no cops on it. |

Yes...
Perhaps unsurprisingly...went to Dublin.
Kinda what I expected from a d*unken weekend. I'd like to go again...take in a bit more of the culture.

I have. Good few years back now. I went to Dublin for a girls weekend. Hated it. Every time I walked into a bar it would go quiet and they’d turn and stare at me.
It was like that pub scene in An American Werewolf in London. Was glad to get home.

No
But I worked with lots of people born and raised in Ireland and used to drink in an Irish pub regularly with them and everyone recommended Galway and didn’t recommend Dublin. So Galway is on my list to do in the next few years. And Cork. |

I have been to Dublin a few times and tullamore and pullough. Also Belfast which of course I realise is norn iron.
What I didn’t expect but was a wonderful experience was people knowing who I was and why I was there. The family connection is very strong in Ireland and it feels as tho people know everyone through those family connections (well it did for me). It’s a beautiful country with amazing people who are warm and welcoming and a really good laugh. Plus, Guinness. And taytos. |

Galway is a far better atmosphere than Dublin, much prettier too.
The Cork accent is something else, especially west Cork |

I’ve been, so I have!!
It was about 20 years ago and went with a mate who was seeing someone who lived just outside Dublin (can’t remember where).
We hired a car and toured all around - such beautiful countryside. Went over to Sligo for the beach, ate fish at Jonny Fox’s (is it still there).
Obviously did Dublin - Guinness factory (which isn’t the bloody factory) and grafton street. |

Legally, yes (Irish Embassy in London, many times, for my work. That is technically Irish soil, like any embassy anywhere in the world is that particular nation's soil).
Geographically no. I do have a stepsister in Clonee though, so it's on the list.
Partial Irish background, get on very well with the Irish (who doesn't! You're pretty awesome), but the Atlantic wetness does do my head in a bit.
Yet that's part of the magick, right? x |

Me. I went with my Dad and my then-infant son when I was a learner driver. I drove on the A roads to the ferry at Stranraer then once off the ferry, through Belfast and to our cottage. Dad drove us to Dublin one day (it was October) and I remember going on the open top tour bus and it snowed. We went to the Guinness brewery and various other places but unfortunately didn't have time to explore much more of ROI. I've also sat in (transferred through) Dublin airport
I liked Dublin a lot, but it was a long time ago now, it might have changed!
I also went to NI on a work trip, some years ago but I mainly saw a hotel and the uni. |

Have family from Ballycastle so try to visit once a year. Lots to see in the area like Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and some Game of Thrones episodes were filmed nearby as well I believe. Love it there, life just seems so relaxed. I feel like a Hobbit in The Shire. |

There's a thing in Ireland called Doughnut tourism mostly practiced by Yanks.
They fly into Dublin Airport and turn right at the exit and explore Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Mayo, Galway, Donegal and then a quick visit to North Antrim before heading back to Dublin airport.
The more adventurous among them turn left coming out of the airport and do all that in reverse.
It's called Doughnut Tourism because the vast majority of them don't even know Ireland has a centre and they never visit the midlands at all.
Strange but well documented over the years. |

I spent a few days in Belfast with work in 99, I didn't have any expectations at all about the place. The hilton hotel was nice.
I had a chuckle when I was told, that I was drinking in the most bombed pub in Belfast.
The Guinness tasted better over there as well.
Driving round the place seeing the murals that have been shown on TV, seemed to totally different to when shown at the end of a news report. |
