Any multi drop drivers or couriers on here.
Jump to: Newest in thread
We buy & sell & this involves multi drops of deliveries & pick ups.
We have a van but I’m quite often travelling alone so need to plan a route beforehand & need to know the best & or quickest/ lowest mileage cost effective way to this.
ATM I use Waze on my phone, I don’t have or don’t really want a separate device, my phone wirelessly charges & is in a great position for me to see & here instructions.
Problem is Waze is not a route planner & you can only add 1 stop so if I’ve got 3 or more locations to visit, it needs to be reset. We’re in London a lot & for reasons unbeknownst to me it doesn’t give me an option to avoid the Rotherhide tunnel which as any Londoners will know is the only tunnel in the UK with a 2 ton weight limit & is very expensive if you don’t know this.
I’ve tried Google but without much success, surely it’s not too big an ask to find an app free or paid that will do what Waze doesn’t do?
Does anybody use anything they could recommend or does what I’m looking for not exist?
Many thanks in advance. |

"Im a driver to be honest I just use the maps app on my iPhone does everything I need."
But are you needing a route planner or doing multi drops, or are you just travelling from A-B? In which case my maps or Waze that I’ve got is adequate, but only for 2 locations, any more it’s no good. |

Years ago I had a courier company & I looked into this
In the early days of satnav & tom-tom, my drivers could only put in a partial postcode so I considered software like wayfinder so I could calculate the most efficient way of getting parcels delivered but it was expensive, not really worth it for 4 drivers so the best way I found was the good old A-Z, always starting with the furthest drop first
I'm assuming there are more economical systems out there these days, particularly if you can link them to a tracking system but even using satnav there can be unexpected holdups, accidents, if the driver takes a wrong turn etc. so sometimes the old ways are the best, get a big map of the areas you're going to & put it on the wall where you can see your points along the way
There used to be a time when I knew the roads & side streets of Manchester, Bolton, Preston, Blackpool & pretty much all points inbetween like the back of my hand so could jink down side roads to make progress but sadly these days road management systems make that nigh on impossible & I'm glad I don't have to do it on a daily basis anymore |
