I'm a huge horror film fan, and movie collector. Depending on what genres you like within Horror I could give you a dozen suggestions at least.
My favourite Horror is anything from John Carpenter, more ambient horror than shock horror, or blood horror.
What sub genres interest you? |

"I tend to like black and white horror films that focus more on atmosphere than jump scares or gore - Frankenstein, Island Of Lost Souls, Night Of The Demon."
In the colour era, films by John Carpenter (The Thing, Christine) and David Cronenberg (Shivers, Rabid, Videodrome). |

Antichrist is a top shelf banger!
It's a bit psychological, and you see a penis find it's way into a vajayjay at the start.
It stars "willem defoe" and apparently he's junk was that big they used a stunt penis because it was off putting using he's. |

My favourite horror recently has been “black summer” season 1. I’ve watched it about 4 times.
A lot of the criticisms that people give that show (lack of dialogue, simple story, no depth to characters) are the exact reason I like it! You can tell that it’s totally intentional that it’s stripped back to the bare bones. Nothing but running and hiding…
There are a few very intense episodes and scenes. And some incredible direction and editing too. |

I'm crazy on slashers in all honesty haha, think iv seen nearly all his films it's hard to pick a fav from his work but halloween is definitely a stand out.
More action based I'm also a big fan of big trouble in little China and assault on Precinct 13.
I'm also a massive collector haha loving alot of the new arrow 4K re releases. |

Horror films from Hammer films with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee to Martyrs and The Vanishing.
B Movie rubbish (but still enjoyable) Night of the Lepus (Giant Rabbits)
The Orphanage, Audition if you want foreign chills.
I personally found The Blair Witch Project disturbing when I first saw it.
Already mentioned but Night of the Demon (It’s in the trees it’s coming’ is a great shout and a recommendation |

I love alot of the early black and white horrors, anything universal monsters is always a treat. I think bela lugosi didn't get as much credit as Boris karloff did (both are amazing actors) but was a treat to see Bela pop up in island kf lost souls as didn't know he was in it when I first watch it. |

I forgot to answer the questions…
Whats your favourite horror film? A tie between Dawn Of The Dead / Blair Witch Project
Do you have any recommendations? - I like the VHS movies. Kinda low budget, sort of trashy, and that’s exactly how I like horror to be.
Whats the worst horror film you have ever seen and why? Halloween 3 was awful and made no sense
Any less well-known horror your mad about and wish more people had seen? - switchblade romance
|

Shivers was my first cronenberg film and if I remember correctly is that the sex parasites and its filmed in Canada? His films always leave me feeling uneasy but I guess that's the point haha. Videodrome is brilliant! Long live the new flesh!
Iv yet to see his new film crimes if the future |

"I've said it on here before, Session 9 is the best psychological horror film I have ever seen, hardly anyone has ever heard of it, but it is so good."
Remember renting that one almost 20 years ago and being thoroughly disappointed. That's the one where cleaners or something are sent to clean an old prison, or psychiatric place? |

Favourite: Not really one specifically but as a whole the Saw franchise. I love the gore and the story as a whole. The spinoff films are shite however.
Recommendations: Sinister. It's a slow burner but has some real shock-factor moments.
Lesser known: Wouldn't say it was lesser known but A Quiet Place 1&2. Quitely understated from most people I know but a cinematic marvel (in my opinion).
Hope these help! |

It took a while for me to dig this shiw. I felt like the acting wasnt great and, as you say, i felt dissatisfied with character development. But man, by the end of that first season I was totally invested and the chaotic steady cam shoot style totally won me over having lost faith in the walking dead. Which at a certain point I also loved. Deeply!. Like I had all the comics before Andrew Garfield even knew it was a thing. |

Recently loved when evil lurks, a really creepy Argentinian film.
All the evil deads are fun.
The most unsettling still are martyrs and midsommar.
Worst are those jump scare nonsense like the nun etc |

Horror is filled with little characters like that when you think about it, crazy Ralph from Friday the 13th has like 3 mins of screen time but you remember him and the performance he gave.

That's the one! Cronenberg's first few films were funded by a government programme to help Canadian film-makers. A major Canadian critic wrote a dreadful review, the headline was something like 'You should know how bad this disgusting film is - you paid for it.' The irony was that it was the first film made with that grant to make a profit. 'All flesh is erotic flesh.'
Crimes...is a difficult one for me as the horror is more realistic and surgical and I am easily icked out by stuff like that. |

"Halloween had me leaving the lights on as a kid
The creep
Grave Encounters "
Me and some uni friends would do horror film marathons ever so often with drinking games mixed in and it was all good fun! One guys lass didn't tell us she was could not really handle horrors and we did all the Halloween films and apparently she didn't sleep for 2 days and always has to keep the light on, something about the william Shatner mask he wears really freaked her out. So your not alone in that one haha |

"So many great horror films
Recently loved when evil lurks, a really creepy Argentinian film.
All the evil deads are fun.
The most unsettling still are martyrs and midsommar.
Worst are those jump scare nonsense like the nun etc"
Misdommer is brilliant and unsettling but I think I'm a terrible human being as when the old man decided to pencil dive off that cliff I could not help but laugh. You spend 72 years thinking about that moment and he chose to pencil dive rookie mistake haha or have I just got a twisted mind ?
Thanks for the Argentinian recommendation! |

"I only like creepy paranormal stuff

"I tend to like black and white horror films that focus more on atmosphere than jump scares or gore - Frankenstein, Island Of Lost Souls, Night Of The Demon.
In the colour era, films by John Carpenter (The Thing, Christine) and David Cronenberg (Shivers, Rabid, Videodrome).
Shivers was my first cronenberg film and if I remember correctly is that the sex parasites and its filmed in Canada? His films always leave me feeling uneasy but I guess that's the point haha. Videodrome is brilliant! Long live the new flesh!
Iv yet to see his new film crimes if the future
That's the one! Cronenberg's first few films were funded by a government programme to help Canadian film-makers. A major Canadian critic wrote a dreadful review, the headline was something like 'You should know how bad this disgusting film is - you paid for it.' The irony was that it was the first film made with that grant to make a profit. 'All flesh is erotic flesh.'
Crimes...is a difficult one for me as the horror is more realistic and surgical and I am easily icked out by stuff like that."
It's often the case with critics and horror, just look at the reviews for the thing when that was released. Boby horror always freaks me out much more than any other horror so I'm gons have to take the plung and watch crimes at some pont. |

"A fan of the old black and whites here too, and the 1932 Mummy, with Boris Karloff, will always be THE scary classic for me "
Brilliant film and Karloff amazing as ever but Jack P. Pierce's fx work on the mummy is timeless, much like his work on frankenstein and the wolf man. |

"The worst is definitely I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle. I still can't figure out if it's a piss take or was meant to be a horror...either way it's dreadful, but so bad that it's funny."
Iv always thought of it as a comedy horror, but horror and comedy fk gand in hand anyway. I think with horror you can definitely make a film that's so bad its good and even in the worst horror film there is something to enjoy within it.
Right, let's go kick some bottom! |

"I watched Nope not long ago, that was a really fun film to watch if you haven't seen it, its more of a horror sc-fi I think.
I remember it being at the cinema but for whatever reason not getting around to seeing it so gons have to give it a watch. I enjoyed peels other 2 films get out and us, have you seen them?
I have I enjoyed them both, but I think out of the 3 Nope is my favourite, I loved it!"
High praise indeed! Might have to see it sooner rather than later then! Il have to report back after seeing it. |

"I forgot to answer the questions…
Whats your favourite horror film? A tie between Dawn Of The Dead / Blair Witch Project
Do you have any recommendations? - I like the VHS movies. Kinda low budget, sort of trashy, and that’s exactly how I like horror to be.
Whats the worst horror film you have ever seen and why? Halloween 3 was awful and made no sense
Any less well-known horror your mad about and wish more people had seen? - switchblade romance
"
Halloween 3 is a fkn banger |

One I'd recommend? Well, there's a few. Tucker and Dale Vs Evil is fantastic - brilliantly done but not overdone.
Midsommar but I think a lot have probably heard about it now. Train to Busan is similar. Wake Wood for a more recent Hammer Horror.
Ohhh. The Strange Thing About The Johnsons for something a lot darker. Korean films like The Host. Or Thirst. Both have that bit more about them. And Dumplings.
I love horror films.

"My favourite horror recently has been “black summer” season 1.
Deeply!. Like I had all the comics before Andrew Garfield even knew it was a thing."

There's this little village called "wakewood" these parents in that village loose their kid, some people in the village attempt to bring the kid back to life. |

Tucker and Dale vs Evil was hilarious and reminded me a lot of Ash vs Evil Dead (which I also love).
The Strange Thing...sounds...er...unique? |

If that reply was to me, there’s only 2 Korean movies on there.
My point being that most Korean horrors don’t get remade, and the two that have weren’t even good ones.

"Night of the demon is a classic. 1958 some great actors, based on the Mr James story casting g the runes. Real atmosphere "
I really love the Demon. Of course it doesn't look real but it's uncanny, really nightmarish, helped hugely by the black and white photography. |

Not a massive horror fan but the first one I recall seeing as a kid was ‘Wrong Turn’ so it holds a special place in my heart. Watching it now it feels more like a comedy but younger me was petrified. |

I cannot find Night of the demon anywhere.
I purchased it years ago on DVD but lost it it's not on any streaming service I can find.
Love it, very atmospheric |

Do a search on Google's Video tab for 'Night Of the Demon full movie' and you'll find it's been uploaded to Daily Motion a few times to stream. |

"I remember watching candy man as a child but most horrors just feel dull now, platform wasn’t a bad time passer "
Have you read the original book/listened to the audiobook of candy man? It’s great. Really creepy, and it’s set in Liverpool (the movie changed the location to America for a bigger audience) |

There was a 1980s BBC version of the woman in black that was excellent.. The movie a few years back was poor. Shame because it's a great story right out of the Mr r r James stable. Ring is a good film, the original japanese one very scary.

The TV version was broadcast in 1989 and was released on DVD/bluray last year (or year before). It is very good. |

Thanks for all the recommendations guys! I ended up watching freddys revenge and dream warriors today, I always love dream warriors but was surprised at how dark freddys revenge is and how much I enjoyed it, been about 10 years since I watched it. Anyone else revisited a film and was surprised on second viewing? |

Right at this very moment - I’m watching season 2. I think it’s brilliant. I love the episodic structure, the stripped back and spare dialogue, the long and extravagant camera moves. It’s like a scary, immersive zombie experience rather than a conventional narrative. |

An old one, black and white, i think made in the 60s - "Carnival of souls" -cleverly done and genuinely creepy.
A newer one - " It follows".. John Carpenter has been mentioned here & i think this film certainly has been influenced by him. This film disturbed me for few days afterwards.
Another newish one - "Barbarian" - entertaining i thought. |
