He was on breakfast tv yesterday, and revealed he has a salery of 4.5 million a year - even he said he cant defend it
How the hell is someone paid such a staggering wage - £865,000 per week, just crazy. |

lol you've put in one too many zeros in the million. It's £86,500 per week. Sort like an average premier league footballer (and way below many). Not trying to defend it but just correcting and putting it in a different perspective. |

It's now called doing a Kwasi Kwarteng with the numbers. "
Nah, Diane set the gold standard. |

If I was going on TV making statements about how I can't defend it then yeah. Or at least donate it if they can't reduce the salary at a corporate level.
There's a young politician in Coventry I think who donates a large portion of her salary do that she only 'earns' the average salary in her constituency. I applaud her. |

"Why doesn’t he deserve it is the question? Probably an incredibly demanding job, a extremely competitive job, and most people couldn’t do it "
1) I doubt he does £4.5million worth of work
2) His salary comes directly from charging people unfairly |

I suspect most people could do it for less than four and a half million…. The bar is not particularly high here.
I couldn’t sleep taking home that amount of money knowing I was taking it out of the hands of people already being crushed by the cost of living.
But then… I have morals and I’m not a greedy bastard. |

Actually, I would hypothesise that people don’t “choose” to work hard jobs for low pay, there are other factors at work.
Have you ever heard the phrase “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know”?
For a salary of 4.5mil, you would have to know ALL the right people.
I’d love to live in a world where people who worked hard were the ones who were rewarded heavily financially… the world just doesn’t work like that, I’m afraid.
Obviously in a job like that there are responsibilities, I get that.
The point I’m making is that a salary of 4.5mil is ridiculous even if every single one of us WASN’T getting ripped off with our bill.
If you’re not angry, you either just plain don’t understand or you’re not paying attention |

I’m angry, I’m just placing it in the right place
People in high ranking jobs deserve high pay. They’ve earned it. Whatever you wanna tell yourself. 99.99% of people would fold within a week in his shoes
What I am angry about is what high paid people don’t pay their fair share of tax. That’s what we should be setting our sights on.

Why can't they both be things we can be angry at?
Yes I'd guess the role of CEO would be a demanding job but I don't the it's 4.5 million pounds worth of demanding....after all they're not saving lives. They're working out ways they can make more profit for the company.

The reason you shouldn’t be angry at both is that one is based on fact, the other opinion
The don’t think it’s worth 4.5 million. That’s your opinion. Obviously many people do, otherwise he wouldn’t get paid that. It’s a for profit company, if they could run it paying a guy 50k they would. It’s a company valued at over 7 billion, he’s not running a lemonade stand where a bad summer loses you £50.
However, paying your fair share of tax is a fact. It’s a law we all abide by for the greater good of the country. If he’s not doing that, it’s unfair and not right and we have a reason to be angry, and we should be extra angry when the rich are given loopholes to bypass those rules with money they don’t “need” while the rest of us can’t even squeeze a penny without HMRC knocking |

"All essential industries should be nationalised rather than run for the private profit of the few.
This..
"
The problem I have with this is you look at the things that are “nationalised”, like the NHS, the blunt reality is that they just don’t work. You only have to look through forum threads to read how poorly the NHS is working for people.
In a nationalised world the people running the NHS would be the same type of people running these “nationalised” industries and you would end up in the same situation. The reason we have private companies doing this is exactly because the quality of nationalised companies was so poor in the past.
I don’t know what the answer is but going back to a method that has repeatedly proven not to work cannot be the answer. |

Private for profit companies run best, that’s obvious
We just need a tougher government in place to reel them in and keep them accountable
No one’s talking about Centrica paying over 1 billion in tax last year.
Shell managed to get away with only paying about 400 million in tax last year because they can offset profits against investments. Is that a good way to handle things? I’m not sure, offsetting profits with investments is a complex issue and with climate change I think they should be considered differently if it’s renewable vs fossil fuel based
January 2023 saw the windfall tax increase from 25 to 35% so that’s a step in the right direction |

It's a fact that he is earning his abhorrent salary as a result of exploiting the masses and charging extortionate amounts to fund it. You only have to look at the profit margins to see that.

Fundamentally the world of corporations is broken. How do we know this. Profit margins. Apple, as an example, is a $3 trillion company, now is that net profit? No it’s market share, but its profit margins are huge. Why are its profit margins huge? Because it overcharges for its products and underpays the people that build them.
Why does it overcharge for its products? Because it can. Why does centrica overcharge? Because it can. And if you raise the issue of uncontrolled profits they say that pensions are linked to the dividends from these companies which would impact everyone.
So corporations pay huge amounts of money to a relatively small group of employees to reduced net profit and increase revenue or R&D costs.
The only way to stop the gap from widening is to curb the amount of profit a corporation can accumulate (thus reducing prices of products), but corporations will just cut supply (to reduce revenue costs and threaten governments with mass unemployment) Capitalism is a crude mechanism for distributing wealth but gives the illusion of choice, all the other systems remove “choice”.
This man cannot justify his wage, by doing so, he is also stating, “I cannot justify the cost of my product, but it is what it is” |
