"Nobody? Just me?
You lot are missing out.
Bloody hell, give us a chance to answer,,,,
Also.. what is this about? "
Patience is not my strong suit… Anyway, the title of this thread is an obscure reference to the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes - that only fans would get |

"I liked their first album and Doentown is a sick track but after that they tailed off a bit."
It would not surprise me if a band named themselves after Calvin and Hobbes, but if that’s what you’re talking about I don’t know the band. |

"Was anyone over here ever a fan of Calvin and Hobbes?
"
Yay! Calvin and Hobbes! With his transmogrifier and his ratings polls for his parents! We certainly had C&H in South Africa, I don't know if it was a thing here. |

I have the complete works in a four book series I had to bring back from the states.
It’s HEAVY.
But it was worth it.
I loved the transmogrifier! And the ratings polls.
Remember Susie Derkins?

"Had a big book of C&H in the 80s.
Funny.
Did you get to see any of the snow ones? Those were some of my favourites.
The snow goons! "
There was a snowman house of horrors one that I liked in particular. Still makes me giggle. |

Poor long-suffering Susie! You just knew that they'd probably grow up and get married.
And his poor habysitter! |

"A huge fan back in the 90s…. Suzy the slime girl!
Hobbes used to tease Calvin about Susie…
I’m sure his opinion changed when he grew up! "
I feel like there are a lot of Calvins here, some whose opinions about Susie did change… and others who still want to sit in the clubhouse |

"I did we had a few collected editions in my school library. I've grown to appreciate the strips more as I've gotten older.
Did you have any favourites that you remember? "
I'm convinced I've re enacted a few strops as the dad with my son as Calvin.
They were in a section with Far Side collections and Sam and Max comics. Clearly our librarian had a thing for absurdist humour. |

My late wife was such a massive fan - she introduced me to C&H. I hadn't really properly appreciated it up until then. "
I didn’t realise that you’ve lost your wife. I’m very sorry for your loss.
Sounds like she had an amazing sense of humour x |

Awesome librarian!
I don’t know Sam and Max, actually. But I always loved The Far Side too. |

Also… do you remember when the dad told Calvin that the world used to be black-and-white? |

Ha ha yeah
Sam and Max: Freelance Police was about a straight laced dog and insane rabbit detective duo who would investigate various incidents ranging from petty crimes to alien invasions.
There was a series of great PC games on them and a cartoon that was like watching an acid trip. |

Sounds like it would’ve been straight up my alley.
I have no idea what an acid trip would be like… maybe |

She had the best sense of humour. She said no one got her (except me). Lol! No one cracked an inappropriate joke like her.
When she was pregnant we went to an antenatal class full of nice middle class yuppies. We already looked out of place as the only goths within 5 miles. Then the class leader told everyone how a woman's nipples darken once she's had children. Cue my wife saying, "I'll remember to look for that the next time I'm watching a porno!". Absolute pin-drop silence while we chortled away together. |

My profile header is from the last ever C&H panel.
Got to admire how Bill Waterson didn’t commercialise C&H and how he chose integrity over dollars. |

Yes! He wouldn’t make merch, he stopped after 10 years so he wouldn’t produce stale art for a paycheck… and he had some very profound things to say hidden behind the funny. |
