Been 3 times, and heading out again at the end of Feb. I always describe it as Magaluf with snow - probably a bit overboard, but you get the picture....

Yes we’ve been there!

It’s primitive, quiet and limited piste

There’s no real apres ski atmosphere - I know I’ve made it sound crap but we had a great week and would go back

I'm wondering if he's referring to Bansko, which is definitely much more like Magaluf-on-snow

Not been to Bansko, and not been to Magaluf since the 90s, so perhaps my comparison is a bit outdated.... karaoke bars, a bit rough and ready....

Good fun regardless...

Yes, a bit like a shanty town in places - with Bulgarian mafioso in tracksuits and shoes.

Russian Mafioso- don't seem to have any interest in queuing for lift, until they have the sharp end of a pole an inch from their ribs.

Has anyone done Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo...im interested how the different ski areas compare?

It's good for learning to ski and it's not a big area, some nice runs still. Bit strange area with shacks and huts for bars and restaurants

Only done Bansko - it's small, and was very quiet the weekend I went, not loads going on nor a very social vibe, but I was solo and not there for the other people things and enjoyed it. There's a lovely thermal spa an hour or so drive away that's worth a day trip.

I think if you've been to say Andorra or France or Italy, Borovets seems like a fairly rough and ready place.

Mrs N and I love it as it's just so friendly. It's always such a laugh. We like the nightlife there. Perhaps we are just odd LOL.

FIrst time we went we went 2016 in BJs across from the samakov. People as always dancing on the table. It was piddling it down with rain outside. We got chatting to this old couple and they said they had been coming every year for last 20 years. I thought no way will I do same place for 20 years. Anyway at midnight it started snowing and there was a huge dump lasting the whole week we were there.

The rest is history. We have been every year since apart from 2020 and some years I've been twice. I cannot resist the place. Everyone knows me and I get treated like a Lord in some bars LOL.

The taxi transfer company even call me His Lordship in the airport arrivals LOL.

Anyway. Borovets is my second home. Love the place. I wil keep going until the old knees give up on me.

The skiing is good too. Best up top on the Gondola and you have to do the Masala run. At 11 km it is one of the longest blue runs in Europe.

Wow, happy memories from my one trip to Borovets in the late 90’s. Awesome place for young d*unken lads, cheap as chips, lethal local schnapps, loads of snow, scary taxi rides and pro’s touting in the hotel. Probably took years off my life that week haha!

Enjoy!!

Was there last week. Great snow conditions across the 3 ski areas all week, although visibility was variable until the sun came out on friday. All but 2 pistes and all but 1 lift open all week. Might have another week there in March if the snow holds up.
