One of the things I've loved in the last couple of years travelling to Vietnam is local people learning to speak English.
This morning I sat in a park for an hour, across the street from where I would catch the bus that I'm now on, onwards to Mui Ne. During that time I was approached by 5 different people including a 12 year old HCMC resident, and 4 others of different age ranges from towns close by. They all wanted to practice their English speaking and the 6 of us sat together talking about our lives and our interests, before wishing each other chuc mung nam moi(happy new year) and going our separate ways.
These type of interactions are why I absolutely love the people here. I know that they had their motives for stopping to talk, but throughout Vietnam I've received nothing but smiles and well wishes from everyone I've met. Never once have I had a negative experience and it always makes me happiest when I'm here |

I teach online and Vietnam is one of my favorite countries to speak to out of the 86 different countries I spoke to last year.
I have a regular 3 year old monster I talk with and yesterday his mum who is also a teacher shouted out “I love you” which made Eve laugh out loud.
Good people in my humble opinion but then the world is full of good people.
Enjoy the bus ride.

In shanghai in the early 90s and a mother with a young son approached and asked if he could practice his English. He was about 8 and his opening phrase was “what are your first impression of Shanghai?” My jaw fell! He had been learning English from the bbc world service! |
