But no
Me,me,me
They get a raise
Then strike for more staff but they took all the money for it. |

I feel like the issues older people have with younger people are quite problematic. Not gonna call it ageism. But it’s grim and problematic. And it’s rife on here. Like sorry that I exist as a younger human being. |

Probably that the mention of gen z was a silly one for the OP to make. I imagine anyway. |

No shade on tube drivers, but don't you think DOCTORS also save lives? |

Oh, agreed. I'm on your side on this one (and depending on how problematic the person is, I'm still a young person according to them, because... I dunno, reasons. If we pretend that people under 40 are literal children, we don't have to take them seriously or pay them, and we get to pretend that it's still the 90s) |

In common with most NHS staff on-the-ground staff they haven’t had a real-terms pay rise for a decade or so - junior doctor pay has pretty much stagnated when you look at it against other skilled professions There aren’t really many other in-country options so the wage competition isn’t there.
I don’t blame them tbh. They all work exceptionally hard. |

The doctors' have accepted the pay rises given over the past 10 years or so. To come back to effectively renegotiate (being generous here) - isn't on in my view.
Should they get paid more? Yes. Is this the way to do it? I don't think so.
The NHS needs more money; there is only so much that can be put into the system... I'd prefer to expand the number of workers to provide capacity and gentle uplift in salaries for all. Simply paying more doesn't solve the backlog without capacity increase.
Starting salary of 32-37k isn't bad IMHO.
I've not seen a real terms rise in salary in the last 20 ish years.
Would I be willing to pay more NI etc to fund this - yes |

Why are old people angry at young people for having a backbone? Okay, in your time you accepted shit pay but that doesn't mean we have too aswell. You're placing your anger on the wrong people, we should be blaming the government, not some 26 year old that just wants a decent pay for doing something like literally saving people's lives. If you don't think that deserves a good pay then honestly you're the problem.
This goes for every job imo, we should fight for good wages. The older generations can lie down and take whatever they are given like always but some of us actually want money for grinding out tedious jobs. I don't see how that makes us entitled but hey I might have similar views when my backbone goes. |

Sorry but you obviously didn’t get my sarcasm in that comment………basically doctors are worth every penny and more and the same goes for 99% of NHS workers |

And here we have a typical example of someone who has been manipulated by the government into thinking the way they want them to think.
Doctors deserve to be paid fairly. Also, if doctors are not paid fairly then guess what… we’ll have even less of them pretty soon.
The people at the top want us divided into us vs them, there’s a famous line in the film Antz that sums it up well. |

"I believe the start pay for a junior doctor is £15ph & they are asking for £20ph so the reality is they are not asking for a lot of money.
"
I was shocked when I heard their starting pay. You can £15/20 an hour cleaning air bnb's round here |

What do junior doctors do again ? I know what nurses and proper doctors do, operations and taking care of the sick etc but these kids just have a clipboard and walk around in slow motion saying …. You can’t go home yet , you can now go home . £15 p/h seems reasonable to me |

You may want to look up the definition of what actually is a junior doctor before you make such comments...

They are proper doctors, just training still.
Would you still feel the same if they saved your life or that of one of your family?
They've studied 5 or 6 years at medical school, work incredibly long hours & help people get better.
No disrespect to any other workers, but you can get £15 per hour in many other jobs that dont need anywhere near the level of skill these doctors have. |

I did , doesn’t sound that complicated tbh
Junior doctors enact the plans of more senior doctors (consultants). This normally entails ordering tests or x-rays, referring to other medical teams or discharging the patient home from hospital. |

Maybe ask one about your definition when you are ill in hospital. You will be surprised. |

When you have a cardiac arrest on a ward on a Bank Holiday evening, I can tell you now, it'll be a junior doctor who leads the attempt to keep you alive. There won't be a handy consultant to save your life, out of hours. They might be available on the end of a phone once they've stabilised you, to discuss next steps with the junior, but the junior will save your life first.
A junior (ST6) saw me in gynae last week. Her decision to administer an injection that induces menopause (again) is a serious one, with potential negative consequences for my future health. She took that decision based on a considerable wealth of training, but she'll still considered "junior" simply because she's not yet a consultant. The clinic was "consultant led", but most people were seen by the three "juniors".
I think we need to dispense with the term "junior doctor" because too many people lack the intelligence to understand that junior doesn't necessarily mean young or lacking experience. |

I really think you need some more research before dismissing junior doctors. You've worded it so that they sound like admin staff. If I were a junior dr I'd be throughly insulted. |
