My daughter ordered a taxi at around 3am this morning off a local company we use regular. Was a mini bus which is usually on at that time, after she got in he drove round the corner, stopped and asked her was it ok if his good friend got in the taxi,. She could see a man waiting. Obviously alarm bells rang and she refused,. Then rang me until she arrived home. It really shook her up, I phoned the company and complained.
Totally unacceptable in my eyes

Totally agree, unacceptable, is contacting the police a bit harsh, I don't think so, it's the "what could have happened" that's scary, definitely right to complain, but I would inform the police as well x |

I'd inform the taxi company and police with details of the time place and taxidriver. What if something happens another time and nothing had been done? I suppose he did ask and didn't pick the guy up but still sounds a bit iffy. |

"Must of been a scarey experience for your daughter. I cant imagine any "above the board" taxi driver putting a female in that positon. As others have said, taxi company and then police"
It was but thankfully she had her phone with her,. So stayed on a call to me until she arrived home |

Being a taxi driver myself I am shocked but not surprised by this incident. Statistics show that sexual assaults by cab drivers are happening at the rate of one a week. Unfortunately using a licensed firm doesn't minimise the risk as some local councils don't think it's a good idea to make criminal record checks on taxi drivers.
Your daughter did exactly the right thing by remaining on the phone for the journey.
The advice I give my children is before you get in a cab stand in front of it and text the registration number to your parents, make sure the driver can see you doing this and if he asks tell him what your doing. Don't get in the front seat. As soon as you get in the cab speak into your phone, there doesn't have to be someone on the other end, just say so the driver can hear you "I'm in the cab now dad I'll be there soon"
I'll be interested in how the police deal with this. |
