Check you out with your Skyway. I need to check out what mags they had as can’t remember.
Yep cross country was always one of the extremes but mostly cold and you couldn’t feel your thighs due to how short the shorts were back then and the low temps during winter.

The sound of the waves crashing from my windows putting me to sleep at night.
Kid ‘cigarettes’ they were the worse chewing gum with a white paper and some white powder wrapped around them. We’d pretend to be smoking and then attempt to chew the gum.
Suncream
Coconuts
Limbers (no clue what these are called in English) but homemade ice pops in tropical flavours.
Swimming pools
The boiling hot rays of the sun and breeze to cool you off.
Sugarcane juice freshly squeezed. |

1. The ice cream van always having run out of ice cream but still coming to our street (‘why play the music then Dad?’, I always asked.
2. Being allowed to sit and watch TV with mum and dad on the sofa on a Saturday as a special treat.
3. The cage and under stairs cupboard (neither were comfy).
Was it the same for everyone? |

1. Books. So..many...books.
2. Dad attempting but ultimately failing to get me interested in any type of sport
3. Being allowed to stay up after my normal bedtime, provided I was quiet and watched with my parents news at ten, or newsnight, or any other serious documentaries. They "groomed" me to be interested and aware of current affairs from a very early age, eg 8 onwards. Still a news/documentary junkie ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Spending hot Summer days out my Nan and gramps back garden when my mum was in work, playing on the swing watching my Gramp potter around his veg patch. My Nan bringing me out a cold glass of lemonade with a scoop of ice cream in it.
Going to the swimming baths with my friends, going through the Park on the way and stopping to look at the goldfish and the birds in the Aviary. Then after swimming having a Hot Chocolate or a Slushie if it were Summer.
Going down to my Gramps allotment, talking to the horses in the field next door. Feeding them grass whilst trying not to act scared in case they caught my fingers. Walking along the allotment paths talking to myself and looking at what other folk were growing. Filling up the water baths if they looked a bit low.
Happy memories

A day trip to Aberdovey, I was only a baby. I can remember my Dad standing in the sea with me in his arms and a big wave came, I remember the roar and the feel of the water
Playing hide and seek, must of been 4/5 and curling up in the airing cupboard, I fell asleep. They couldn't find me and all hell broke loose, I stumbled out of the airing cupboard a few hours later to the sound of my Mum crying, neighbours all over the place. My Mum hugged me then slapped me
I had two older brothers and constantly bugged them, always wanted to play their games. One day I was particularly obnoxious and Dad made them take me out with them, they walked me to the local wood saying we'd play hide and seek, was told to close my eyes. I did and they fucked off and left me there, I was found god knows how long after by the landowner, I was crying. He took me home, my Brothers weren't home, Dad went mad, grounded them for a month lol
I was the littlest and a spoilt brat, I was also Daddy's princess. I think I probably deserved it ![](/icons/s/2/halo.gif) |

Watching foreign films late at night, as they had subtitles so my parents wouldn't hear my TV...Fired up both my interest in world cinema and my interest in exotic naked ladies.
Playing doctors and nurses in the shed with the girl from next door when we were about 6 or 7- no doubt we'd probably be sent for counselling now or taken away by the thought police?
My dad borrowing his mates Porsche for the day- turned a car mad kid in to a life long petrol head |

The frequent references to BMX bikes makes me realise how young most of these oldies must be.
In the period between my cycling to school days and the BMX era, bicycles almost became extinct. Only someone stuck in the past would have opened a cycle shop as a career in the mid to late 'sixties.
Same thing nearly happened to cinemas as well. |
