What did you do for your 40th birthday?

I invited friends and family around to mine for an all day thing so kids could come as well. Made a big buffet for everyone and d*unk and ate until everyone left apart from a few then we went down the pub |

I milked it. I had so many nights out with different groups of friends, had a few different weekends away, went on a family holiday, and had a wonderful party! |

My husband surprised me with a weekend away at a murder mystery..
I loved it I was so surprised as I thought we were on our way to a nice restaurant..
I'm not sure what surprised me more the weekend away or the fact he packed my bag for me without me knowing and remembered everything i would need for a weekend away .. |

I died, then got resuscitated.
I have a huge hole in my memory of the events leading up to including and after, just a big nothing.
One minute you're running enjoying the sunshine next thing you stumble into your hotel bleeding from a severe head injury unaware of how and why.
Happy 40th

I had money when I turned 40 and had a house with quite a bit of land. I hired a marquee, booked a rock band and invited loads of friends and acquaintances . It was a brilliant night.
For my 50th I booked a small restaurant for myself and a few friends and had a night.but quiet night .
I’m 60 in March and money is disappearing faster than ever and getting harder to earn so I haven’t made any plans. |

I did all my favourite things:
Spent time with special people in my life
Hiking
Swam in the Pacific Ocean
Ate my favourite fruits in excessive quantities
Laughed loads
Felt loved
Oh, I also lost my favourite sunglasses in the ocean. That was sad. |

I had a little family party at my mum's house and looking back on my FB ti_eline I think we took the kids to pizza hut too
Oh, and the people from the gym bought me a big cake so we probably did a workout with lots of 40s in it, maybe there was a bbq there too.
If you are looking for ideas they will probably have flying cars and holidays on the moon by the time you're 40, so I'd give it a year or so before you book anything.

I received 40 different presents (of various size and potential value), plus a 3-night narrowboating holiday along the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal. Definitely one of the best birthdays I've ever had, tbf ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Many things. I had a birthday month
A weekend away with one group of friends - a boozy chaotic city break, karaoke, dancing, bowling, cabaret, shopping, rowdy fun and a lot of laughs.
A family party at my parents house.
Another weekend away with other friends in a big country house with a pool and hot tub, cooking together, a black tie dinner evening, games, dancing, countryside walks, nature and mushrooms. Fun and love.
Went to some gigs, a couple of art exhibitions, a big rave, and few intimate small dinners and catch ups.
And I just had a big warm rush of gratitude writing this and remembering it all - thanks OP ![](/icons/s/redface.gif) |

Had my 40th a few weeks into the first lockdown - was NOT what I had planned obviously!! Some friends sneaked out and dropped pressies on the door step which was nice. Kids unpacked every single toy in the house and made a banner for a toy tea party. Still annoyed (by lockdown not the kids!) and planning to throw a big 45th! |

I had Covid (in the days when you were housebound with it).
It was excellent timing. I legitimately had a reason to stay in and do sweet fa for it!
My birthday on Monday actually. I have pnuemonia. Clearly making this a lifestyle choice ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"You’ll remember this one x"
Nope. It was more than 16 years ago. I think my mother-in-law was staying with us, so my wife may have taken me out to dinner, but I can't remember. I do remember that my wife gave me a really nice mp3 player.
I can't remember my 30th, either. |
