Anyone else hate New Year?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Would be interesting to hear of different levels of indifference to the event.
Mine is based on a preference for going to bed somewhat earlier than midnight coupled with the opinion that letting off firecrackers is nearly always an inconsiderate act.
Let's hear it from others with similar or opposing views... |

Sorry to hear that, OP.
I love NYE, love partying with friends or at a proper dance event like this evening for which I am just getting ready.
NYW brings the Christmas season to a lovely end for me. |

My father was an angry d*unk. One new year, he tried assaulting my mother, and then me when I went to protect her.
Dislike it because of that. I also rarely drink at home. I am a happy d*unk, though never near my kids |

Indifference. If there is a dance event on I might attend it I am going to one this year.
Other than that I ignore it.
I have never been to a swingers event because these are couples and single ladies and I don't like the clubs because I would be another zombie male for the clique to ignore.

I prefer New Years Eve to Xmas as the New Year gives us hope of a possible good year! I don't celebrate it by going out, just have a glass of wine or 2 at home to ring in the New Year!! Watch the fire works on the telly!! |

I can take it or leave it. If people want to set off a few fireworks to celebrate then I have no problem with that, it's not as though it happens every night of the year. I'll stay up, until midnight, have a couple of drinks then go to bed and that's it done with for another 12 months. |

It means two things:
Fuckers let off fire works which scares me dogs. Wankers.
People who don't normally go to pubs go to pubs. They are fuckwits who dont understand the unwritten laws of pub going.
Is there an equivalent of bah humbug for tonight? |

Know what you want before being served.
Don't stand or sit at the bar. |

Not at all bothered about it. I can only remember one year when I went to a club with an ex and really enjoyed myself. Otherwise I've always tended to find NYE parties/gatherings something of an anticlimax.
Tomorrow is just another day so I begrudge paying to get into a venue I wouldn't normally frequent, and being charged extra money for soft drinks (as a virtual non-drinker).
I daresay I'll be in bed and fast asleep when the clock ticks over and the new day starts. |

I'll be glad to see the back of this year but I'm usually either in bed or watching TV when the clock ticks over into the New Year.
Can't really miss it as WW3 breaks out around here, always a few minutes early as the halfwits around here are either too impatient or two d*unk to tell the time |

Wouldn’t say I hate it
Mostly indifferent.
Surely one of the most false of nights though.
That guy that called me a prick two weeks ago is now d*unk and apparently loves me.
(I still think he’s a prick) |

I used to love working the bar on New Year's Eve, but if I wasn't working I'd stay in. Doesn't do a lot for me... but I love watching other people have a good time.
Except the spunktrumpets with fireworks. They can fook off. |

Yep, hated NYE for many years. What is it supposed to be a celebration of? I really don't get it at all. Tomorrow will be the same as today for the vast majority of people. |

As a child we had a very strange NYE tradition - my parents got us all dressed up to the nines and we use to go to the theatre (when it was still a proper posh thing to do!) and watch a show which ended at midnight with balloons, confetti etc raining down and cast and audience singing. My parents weren’t drinkers or big party people so I was never exposed to that way of celebrating NYE
As a young adult I found NYE a night where there is so much pressure to have fun - and it never lived up to the hype tbh.
With little kids and living in a rural area with rubbish trains and expensive taxis at night, and later single mum, haven’t been easy to have a fun celebration. I’d love to be someone who loves NYE but just not my thing!! |

Used to love it when I was younger. In Scotland so much emphasis is put in Hogmanay and the image of us all being mad party animals. The reality is there's so much pressure to make it THE night of the year and it usually falls short.
I'm looking forward to a lovely chilled night with Mr & the kids drinking wine and watching movie. No where else I'd rather be. |

I have one memorable new year celebration but for me Christmas Eve was always the best party night. New Year nearly always a damp squib, mostly I’ve had enough of the so-called festive season by then. |

Would have been out in the truck if the plant we contract to hadnt decided to have a shutdown this year (mostly runs 24/7/365). Will see it in in the usual way, through my eyelids.
Stopped going out 10 years ago as I live in a rural area and realised that I was seeing people who I hadn’t seen for 12 months, and it reminded me why I hadn’t seen them for 12 months.

Indifferent, although I love them, since I had the kids. But Im hoping to inject a bit of not excitement but a bit of umph in the coming year. The kids are now at an age where they aren't as needy so I want to have some fun, go to a club or few, go to a social or just something.....
Regardless, I hope everyone has a good night tonight whatever they are doing x |

"Bl**dy fireworks have started already.
It's just another day as far as I'm concerned. Nothing special about it these days."
Just heard the first ones round here as I scrolled doewn to your comment!
I'm sure they do it just to let people know that they have got disposable income.
Midnight at New Year has never been quite the same as during the era when a multitude of ships on and alongside the Thames opened up their whistles for what seemed like eternity. |

Yeah it's just another day to me. When I was younger and I was out, 6 deep at the bar, everywhere was rammed, you were paying into places that are free every other day of the year, people were out who weren't normally out causing hassle or spewing, getting a taxi was murder, then they charged you triple the price. Used to hate it.
I stay in now or go to a house party. |

That's rather petty. I still wish you a happy & prosperous New Year.
"Lang may yer mum reek." (That's not a crazy Terf insult BTW. Actually Scottish way of saying all the best ). |

Right now, I’m in dislike of my New Year decisions, so I’ll say I currently hate New Year’s celebrations.
If I lie down I feel I’ll be sick.
I mistakenly ate something with gluten or dairy and my stomach feels like it will explode any moment.
But, happy new year. |

I'm happy that others get a lot of joy from it.
But it's not for me.
My place is at home, with my beautiful wife, snuggled up under a blankie on the sofa, glass of bubbly in hand, thanking her for the last 12 months, and looking forward to the next.
I realise how fortunate I am, and for those not as fortunate may this new year be kind and fruitful to you too. |

I hate the Christmas/new year period totally. It's fir families, not for us who are alone . I don't celebrate any of it . Its just a couple of normal weeks to me. I don't see the point of having Christmas Dinner, or putting up a Christmas tree when I have no one to share it with. It's the most depressing ,lonely time of the year. |

I like New Year for two reasons:
1) Christmas is over - not a fan these days!
2) New Year was once a more important celebration in Welsh speaking communities. Calennig, the tradition of groups of children going from house to house to welcome in the new year, still exists in some places.
I like it when we do things a bit differently |

I am sorry to hear that but what are you doing about it? It's not always easy and sometimes impossible to change but there are always ways to at least try and change it and that is speaking from petsonal experiences. I wish you all the best in the new year. |

I really can't stand the whole festive season in general.

We'd probably still get bl**dy Christmas merchandise in the shops in September. |
