Are *narrations* here to stay?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Not entirely sure narrations is the right word to use, but I'm going with it.
Have they always been a part of the forums? Is it a fad that will pass?
*Willy sits here slightly unamused*
Do I need to get used to them or will they pass like dabbing? |

"I'm actually at a loss ????
Do you not see them, Granny? They're everywhere currently and the popularity seems to be growing currently."
I might have done Willy.
Now if only I could hear someone reading them.
If you tell me the name of a thread i'll go on read it and know what you mean |

What do you mean by 'narrations' ......
I know what narration means.
I know what a narrator is.
What do you mean by 'narrations' ?
No one reads the forum to me ?
"
All this third person stuff and *describing their actions*

As I said, "narrations" might not be the right word, Granny C. |

In my defence, I’ve always done this from the early days, and it comes from my college days of drama/performing arts. I’m from writing, scripts a little bit of stage direction. So when texting came around on mobiles. It’s how we expressed somethings to friends. It’s just what we did. |

One of my favourite narrations was by Greedy Thump many years back during a juicy thread, where he *sits in the corner furtively munching on popcorn, eyes darting to and fro*
Or something along those lines. |

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh now I get you Willy.
More like an action than a narration.
I do it once every blue moon but used to do it ALL the time on Global Chat and I.C.Q. ( before you time dahlink)

I'm not making pops at anyone in particular. Just noticed it more recently and didn't know if it was a fad |

They don’t work for me - people who talk in third person constantly.
If that’s how they find entertainment or think they are funny then so be it.
But they also aren’t the type of people who we are looking to meet anyway so I can easily bypass the comment/thread.

"It's just a glorified and fancy talking in third person.
In fact, talking in third person is a trait associated with (but not a defining trait) narcissists. "
To me, it signifies an action, like *passes Kai a shovel to keep digging*
It's nothing to do with talking in the 3rd person. Mrs KC would never do that! |

When the name is included it is. Just stating the action is not.
*states it is narcissistic*
Vs
*Kai states it is narcissistic* |

Being serious for a second. I never put our/my name on stage direction!
I also use them for non existent emojis....

It's not a narration, it's to denote an action.
This is why I did the 'action threads'
They used to be done on the forums a few years back and were fun.
Seems these days purple don't 'get it'

*Nods in agreement*
They're not for saying the words you can type. Everyone knows who is "saying" what, because the typed words appear under their username. The star thingies are to denote physical actions/movement that we can't see through the typed word or use of emojis.
*Skips merrily away*
Okay

Any excessive mannerism is not that interesting or engaging long term. Agreed.

That's not the only explanation for illeism. I've been reading about it recently a little bit. Sometimes it's for detachment purposes, could be a tool for people with self esteem issues to not stress about the situation so much. As if it wasn't about them. |
