"Hi, I'm quite skinny but always wanted a tattoo. Not really sure what sort, I like some tribal dragon ones though. What do people think? Can you be too skinny for a tattoo? "
I would avoid big block tribal ones they are refereed to as so 1990's by good tattooists and hard to cover up if you have a change of mind. |

Yeah, I'm not thinking anything too big. Probably longer and thinner. Feeling something blocky would more emphasise how thin I am. |

"No such thing as too skinny for a tattoo...?
But PLEASE don't get a tribal dragon thing...? Tribals are rather chavy and very 90's "
When does chav become retro? |

Never too skinny. But it hurts more where it's skin and bone.
Pick a design you love. You live with it- not other people- so it doesn't matter if they don't like it. |

If you do decide to get a tattoo, don't just go to the nearest shop to you. Look around, both online and in the 'real world'. Find examples of tattoos you like. Find some tattooists whose work you like. Do some reading on what constitutes a technically good tattoo (regardless of subject matter) so that you can tell who is a good tattooist and who isn't. Most importantly, save up money because a good tattoo from a good tattoo artist will set you back hundreds. Don't get swayed by people offering cheap tattoos - it reflects the quality they're offering. Last of all, don't just look in your local area. Check out the rest of the country - even abroad - and consider travelling if you come across a brilliant artist who unfortunately doesn't live on your doorstep. It'll be worth the time and money and you'll have something on your skin for the rest of your life that you will enjoy. |

Take a look at some of the designs of Peter Aurisch or Expanded Eye Tattoo or Buena Vista Tattoo for some more unusual ideas.
Their work, to me, always looks better on a skinny or slender frame than it does on a meaty one (but that of course could just be my preference).
Whatever though, think long and hard about what you like, who you choose to do it and ask them to recommend ideas for your body.
Also, be prepared to wait - good artists are in high demand. I waited 10 months for my first sitting on my leg piece. |

I love buena vista so so much! Their polka trash stuff is mind blowing! I'm saving my back for that style |

"get a full sleeve "
I'm a pretty skinny guy and I have two sleeves. One tribal, one Japanese.
My best advice to the op is to choose the design and artist carefully and the results will speak for themselves. |
