I read the article this morning that the police were looking for the thief who stole the vehicle stop road sign. They were not looking for the man who painted the drones upon it ( banksy). I assume it was a genuine road sign .I admire his artistic skill and meanings behind his work but I can't help thinking there was a double standard here. If I painted on a traffic cone and you stole it would they put resources to looking for you ? |

"Surely it's up for grabs by first come first served. Tom would not give you Tuppence for it. "
Agreed Tom, nothing more than criminal damage. Anyone who was ever arrested for graffiti on walls or bus stops etc. should have their fines reimbursed.
Why people think it’s ok to vandalise other peoples property is beyond me.
If it’s ok for Banksy to do it, then the precedent is set. |

Yes, i'm sure he would have seen the error of his ways and left immediately, tidying any mess made and other rubbish discarded |

That's why nothing is ever nicked and sold. Everybody everywhere upholds the law and the black market has been eliminated. |

Bit of a difference between some Airpods and artwork by probably the worlds most famous and collectible contemporary artist? |

"It wasn't a real stop sign. At worst, he added a wrong traffic sign to the wrong junction which probably carries some other issues/laws broken." .
I had since read that the stop sign has been replaced as it was dangerous without it being there .! |

Sometimes that's part of the art... Maybe they thought it was staged? I dunno. Certainly got more notorious. |

There is a huge difference between nicking somebody's crap mountain bike and a Banksy.Famous paintings have been nicked before, they are worth a tiny amount on the black market,if you can find a wealthy buyer for known st0len,a buyer who can only sell to someone else who buys known st0len( its only for their own collection, not for re sale). They are worth more as a return fee, which is what professional villains do. |

I think it was just some random bloke who twocked it? Not a professional art thief? He just kinda wandered away after rocking up with bolt cutters? |

"Wonder how many burglaries are unattended but the Sweeney are sent to this one. Is the mayor of London to blame? "
To be fair... Years ago my mum was on her hols, someone tried to break in via the patio doors, and didn't gain entry, neighbours called the boys with blue lights, they attended, investigated, tracked down myself via neighbours, rang me on nightshift, and reassured everything was still secure, but asked me to double check the next day... More than you can ask for really?
And frankly if someone is pissing about with a can of spray print on a removable sign, in public. Then I couldn't give a shiny shit if it's Banksy, or some local twat. They shouldn't be doing it, it's not 'art', and if someone's dumb enough to then remove it with bolt cutters, and away on his bike then they're a daft twat too... And we all need to get a fucking grip, and no one needs to get upset about the boys in blue lights following up a 'theft'.. Which they probs couldn't be arsed about either. But some daft twat will have made a fuss |

I'm a bit shocked there's no discussion on the actual meaning of the artwork.
Isn't that what art is supposed to elicit ? A response ? Provoke a discussion ? Get people thinking deeply about the actual message ?
.
It's interesting (and clever) that the motif of 3 flying drones has been used, in a style evoking the commonly known and kitschy "3 Flying Ducks".
Typically found in a living room from a certain era.
At its heart, this is an Anti-War message. Stop the War.
It doesn't say which one in particular, but that's irrelevant.
(You could infer the style of drone is very US Reaper-Like, and then further infer the artist is deliberately highlighting the US and any allies which use said drone) but I think that's a jump too far.
.
Stop Drones. Stop The War. Choose your pick on which war. Plenty to choose from.

For someone that doesn’t give a “SHINY SHIT” about a piece of “ART” thats rather quite the rant.
Are you okay!? |

"He’s never going to be able to sell that… there’s photos all over social media of him stealing it… that’s very illegal right there"
Don’t worry British museums are well known for buying stole goods.

Stop the War or Stop the Drones,
Hardly original or thought provoking.
Maybe just Stop Vandalising |

I hope the artwork didn't distract anyone from applying the brakes in their vehicle, the guy was probably doing a public service with a view to road safety lets hope the white lines are still visible. |

What is the greater vandalising ?
The stop sign defacement, or the defacement the drones cause ?
Bigger picture, Tom. Bigger picture. |
