Of course I do. Will only watch the extended editions. The theatrical release no longer exists in my world.
I have a few small issues with changes they made, I love some changes they did make but book or movie I'm all in.
Sam is the true hero!
Return of the king had its 20 year anniversary the other day... And all 3 movies still stqnd strong. |

Yes. Life was a bit simpler when they came out. I don’t think a trilogy quite like it has been filmed since.
Let the lord of the black land come faaaaaaaaarth! Or summat like it.
The Hobbit was meh! |

I enjoyed all of the Hobbit, and the LOTR movies. They’re a nice way to pass a lazy Sunday, post lunch food coma. Or to have as background noise if I’m working in the hobby room. |

I read the book when I was 11, after seeing the Ralph Bakshi animated version. It is my favourite book. My wife and I shared a love of Tolkien's works and we have an extensive library of his material.
The Peter Jackson trilogy was a very commendable effort at bringing the book to the screen while retaining its flavour and sense of depth and scope. Of course, any purist will have points of departure with the adaptation (Tom Bombadil gets axed again! Where is Glorfindel? There are no elves at Helm's Deep! Why is Faramir's nobility and wisdom diminished? The Scouring of the Shire apparently never happened! Etc. Etc.) But that's quibbling, and I admit it. The broad sweep of the story is intact, and the characters are well represented. A very worthy effort. I have the extended DVD set.
(The Hobbit adaptation? Total and unadulterated pants! Jackson totally lost it! We do not speak of it in polite circles)

A friend took me to see this at the cinema, they still tease me as I said 'No fooking way' at the battle scenes and scale of the special effects to this day.
I found it an enjoyable experience, also he directed one of my favourite cult movies Braindead.
'He has the bite'!

Jackson did the best he could do with what he had for The Hobbit, and in that situation it's amazing it was as good as it turned out.
It was a shit storm already when he was brought on to the project very late after the departure of Guillermo del Toro. The studio was heavily involved with throwing their influence around. He didn't have the time to prep like he did with LOTR, he didn't have control of the script like he did with LOTR. |

Yep. It shows. Were I him, I wouldn't have touched it. But I'm not, and he did. Presumably he hoped to rescue it. Oh well. It's pants. |

I have said to a friend who also likes them on countless occasions that the local independent tiny cinema should do old reruns.... Ie the star wars films, the old James bonds, the godfather trilogy, the harry potters etc. They do a different film from the collection each week. There will no doubt be a million reasons why it can't be done.....but it would be soooooo cool!
Lord of the rings is one of those trilogies that are great, but it's amazing when seen on the big screen! |

We both love the books and trilogy, would change a couple of things (they did Faramir wrong & Shelob should have been at the end of the 2nd one)
Not keen on the hobbit films, should have been 2 absolute max.
We don’t talk about the Prime montrosity |

"Frustratingly some important scenes were cut to keep the running time down. Death if Saruman, Mouth of Sauron. You can see them on Google. "
Buy the extended cuts on disc. They add at least another 30 mins to each film

Both the LOR and Hobbit are essential viewing for us Fantasy Fiction geeks.
If you played D&D as a kid then JRR Tolkien and Raymond Feist were where we lived!
Of course, if you play Magic The Gathering while enjoying a glass of wine, we can still be friends. |

I love them too!
Although I'm always a bit frustrated that frodo gets all the glory when actually he'd have totally fucked it if it wasn't for Sam - multiple times over.
I also liked the "rings of power" series. Got a thing for elves as it turns out... |

I have to agree with Kai. It's an abomination. I managed two episodes before I gave up to avoid an aneurism. |

Agree with all of that. Except I was happy to see the back of Tom Bombadil. And the Song of the Ents. I skip those bits when I'm reading it too!
And the way the films brought Rivendell and Lothlorien to life! Also I have so much time for the use of surround sound with the Palantir "Build me an army, worthy of Mordor". And I'm grateful for all the Boromir "One does not simply..." memes.

Still prefer the books. Biggest disappointment about the films are they completely omit;
The whole Tom Bombadil section
The significance of Galadriels gifts, critical to Gimli!s story
The scouring of the Shire.
Huge gaps |

Gatekeeping isn't big or clever you know.
Galadriel is annoying in it but the story is good.

Bombadil himself as a character had zero impact upon the story, and even Tolkien admitted to that. Other than the finding of the swords, but again didn't need him. When it comes to film the whole Bombadil would had been filler and bloat, easily the first thing needed to be cut for run-time and narrative purposes. |
