What can you teach?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I was reflecting on the last few weeks where I’ve taught a couple of martial arts classes (what went well, what could I have done better, did I use the time well, was the technical detail sufficient, was it too technical, did everyone get something from the class etc) as I look to develop my own style of teaching and become more aware as a martial artist and a leader.
I’m also a qualified football coach having worked across adults and kids, and coached in the preliminary rounds of the FA Cup and FA Youth Cup etc.
What could you teach if you had 6-10 people in a room for 60 -90 minutes? |

I've run courses on negotiation, drafting contract clauses, game theory, sourcing strategies, stock management and I'm sure there are others but I can't remember what they were.
I loved doing the game theory courses, they were huge fun!
If I was doing one just to prove a bizarre depth of knowledge in an oddly specific field I could easily do 90 minutes on contamination in the global coconut supply chain |

"Rugby - with my lapsed level 2 licence."
As a football coach I’ve always been interested in the coaching methodologies used in Rugby, Hockey, Basketball and Netball particularly
How did you find the courses? |

"Good behaviour
60 minutes of silence in a room. Everyone gets a certificate on completion and no women allowed so that you can say your course pass rate is 100%? "
I doubt it. People seem to havr forgotten how not to be loud and abnoxious these day. Have you tried to have a quiet drink, coffee, meal etc etc these days. If you find one pleass let me know. They don't care as iy seems that all tgat mattets is them, everyone else can do one. Sadly I could not reverse that in 60 mins |

"Locksmithing, more specifically, picking locks open.
A useful skill in these parts.
Sign me up, that would be a brilliant skill to master!"
Another sigh up here. I live in the East End and feel like these skills are lost among my people |

It’d be fun to try. Maybe do a before and after check in to see if people shift 2 or more places on a 1-10 scale |

I hope I can teach karate at least adequately well. I’m also recently become well acquainted with the ins and outs of NIS2 so could probably manage to teach that for an hour |

It was a while ago I did them, very much 'whole-part-whole' methodology. Show a full passage of play, break down the skill part then put it back into the full passage.
Step up skill level/ pressure on play (add additional defenders, reduce space etc.) |

Yeah football is very similar with the same whole-part-whole breakdown.
One of my earliest coaches/mentors used what was referred to as the aliveness method based around the three stages of introduction , isolation and integration. Really think I wanna go quite deep into coaching theory and methodologies, as the ecological approach is another game/practical based methodology that is becoming increasingly popular that I’m finding myself drawn to in many ways |

Yeah, you adapt and practice makes perfect etc but learning new skills can be difficult. Having leftie friendly tools is good but not realistic in this world. You have to overcome and learn to use what’s available currently. My friends all get weirded out watching me prepare food, they aren’t used to seeing someone cut bread with a knife in their left hand.
We’re only about 10% of the population. |

Fountain pens are really difficult to write with unless you curl your wrist and slant the page. Cheque books, remember them? Decent scissors have to be designed for left handers if they need to be used in the left hand, it’s such a challenge! I have a permanent grudge against society and it’s right handed ways.

That’s not a come on or innuendo to any curious weirdos lurking
We are close to M25"
Top stuff. I’ll be in touch and try to get down in the new year or if you have any Open Mats over the holidays |

"I could probably teach them a year dance that I remember from Bronze level, when I was a kid.
Or to bake some cupcakes.
*Tap dance
Dance is always fun. Surprised more haven’t said so "
Could also teach the waltz, that's pretty easy |

Suicide awareness, how to spot the signs and what steps to take to help someone. I've taken a few courses and group meetings since my brother passed and tried to educate myself so I feel like I'd be very good at that. I'd be good too talking about mental health, depression and anxiety especially but not sure I could teach anything. I'm pretty good at baking so maybe that.
Martial arts is very impressive. I'm jealous. |

"I can teach you all about the different aspects of Fraud if you like. If you're not tired now you soon will be "
Oddly, I find fraud awareness very interesting. I work with our internal auditors and local counter fraud team as part of my job as you well know so teach me everything you know |

That’s such an awesome life lesson, and the teaching part comes from within when you have a ‘why’ which you clearly do
Martial arts are awesome I agree |

There's an old saying.
Those who can....Do,
Those who can't...Teach.
Those who can't Teach... Teach Teachers. |

Professionally I can teach history
But am sure could teach those 6-10 people a lot about their rights, the current UK laws they are subject to and even ones they're not as not many people actually know all that! |

"I hope I can teach karate at least adequately well. I’m also recently become well acquainted with the ins and outs of NIS2 so could probably manage to teach that for an hour
Amazing. How long have you studied Karate and what style?"
Goju Ryu and coming up to almost 30years |

"I was reflecting on the last few weeks where I’ve taught a couple of martial arts classes (what went well, what could I have done better, did I use the time well, was the technical detail sufficient, was it too technical, did everyone get something from the class etc) as I look to develop my own style of teaching and become more aware as a martial artist and a leader.
I’m also a qualified football coach having worked across adults and kids, and coached in the preliminary rounds of the FA Cup and FA Youth Cup etc.
What could you teach if you had 6-10 people in a room for 60 -90 minutes?
Biology
So sex
I can teach that too, yes. Shall we start with the mechanics or the biochemistry?
That sounds like a come on
Ps. The one that has more practical
*Produces giant longitudinal cross section through a penis*
Shall we apply the labels?
Labels, markings, repetition…… i’m a slow learner "
We can go through it sloooooooowly and several times, if you can cope |

Incorrect. Those who can't teach, teach PE. That's the saying |

"Early medieval history
That's really cool, we can tach late medieval history. In fact we both teach reenactment combat with a wide variety of weapons."
I can remember you saying about some of the events you did. It sounds great |

From a lifetime of experience if given time to prepare a few things.
English language/spag/written communication but then that’s my job so…
From many years working in certain youth organisations - various camping and survival skills (inc how to survive the youths! Mainly wine based that )
Counted cross stitch
Basic cooking and baking and bookkeeping.
The mental health and weight loss lessons really appeal to me though.
Currently brushing up on my own modern language skills, I’d love to learn Latin at some point properly. |

I could teach you the art of making a perfect Schnitzel.
I could teach you German.
I'd be happy to introduce anyone interested to the "De Chevaux", the iconic 2cv from France, running you through the simple but ingenious engineering or simply driving one.
Finally, in the words of an RSM/Grenadier Guards (yes, them wot wears them bearskin hats at the Palace), a man I highly regarded and respected, "why it's important to guide the first 6 inches in per hand, like with a good woman", pmsl. ....first 6 inches, haha.
OK, let's stick to a damn good Schnitzel, whether Wiener, Zigeuner or just a delicious Haenchen Schnitzel
