Is anyone else NOT feeling the Christmas spirit?
Try as I might I just can't be merry.
I put my xmas decorations up tonight and I feel like a fraud.
I'd change my username to TheGrinchOfWhoreville but even that feels to Christmassy.
Meh.

I never get ‘that Christmassy’ but did get sucked into it with ‘feliz navidad’ being played on radio the other day. Sang along and all. |

When I was young I loved it. It's only the last couple of years I've started wondering what all the fuss is about.
- I don't like that the xmas hype starts in October. By the time it actually gets here it's boring.
-I don't like the disruption
- enforced merriment. SMILE!! IT'S CHRISTMAS!! As if all your problems/stresses vanish in a puff of tinsel.
- I hate the notion of "Christmas spirit". Peace and goodwill shouldn't just be Christmas and actually it's not all that virtuous to *only* be kind and generous just because it's xmas...

I've still not finished the tree. Late in the week I got a sudden rush of festive spirit and finished a wreath and put up the paper chains and snowflakes and sorted out the garland but basically? Until I was in the mood I didn't force myself to do anything.
You shouldn't feel guilty for not being full of festive cheer. It doesn't make you a Scrooge, it makes you human. There seems to be this notion that you need to be full of seasonal joy and with baubles hanging from your very fingertips at this time of year. It's nonsense.
I'm quite happy to sit with my meh, knowing it'll pass and I'll feel festive soon without feeling guilt. You shouldn't. x |

Well I only put them up because I felt like I HAD to. I've been sulking ever since and I'm secretly hoping my minions will wreck the tree overnight.

I don't feel the Christmas spirit these days.
I even asked some of my colleagues to turn down the Christmas songs they were playing because they were annoying me.
I'm expecting the spirit of Christmas past any time now. |

Hated it as a kid. I loved it in my youth, Christmas week was fun and loads of lovely liaisons and partying with mates. Happy times when kids were young. Now just commercialised crap but still a few opportunities to party and meet up with some flames |

I’ve never enjoyed Christmas, there’s reasons which I’ll not bore you with; that said, it’s those who seem to enjoy calling you out ‘par humbug excellence’ which pisses me off as well as its total commercialisation.
My ex wife used to make matters worse each year by using different tactics to engage my none existent Christmas spirit; insanity and she knew it, was genuinely one of the reasons we divorced!
When I moved to Asia I was safe in the knowledge that I’d finally escaped, given less than 1% of the Thai population identify as Christian, circa 5% of Malaysians and circa a third of Singaporeans; alas, there’s Christmas decorations in every shopping mall as far as the eye can see, the fucking thing is inescapable
You did ask!

Make a list of 5 things that are positive about this time of year
1) Baileys is £10 a bottle
2) Time off work
3) officially can slob out and eat chocolate at any time and day drink without judgment/interventions
4) have on line debates with strangers about what constitutes as a Christmas movie
5) endulge in the seasonal onslaught of savagery that are the post Christmas sales
It's the most wonderful time of the year

For me it's more that everyone ELSE feels it and are excited and happy. I get off (not sexually!) on that. But me personally yeah, I don't get excited for presents and a roast which is basically all it is. It's just a nice day to get pissed and be silly. |

May I add, if anyone does want to spoil their little kids rotten, don't address all of their gifts from Santa. Takes a bit of the magic away when they go back to school and one kid got a PS5 and a bundle games ect and another got a lunchbox and some crayons |

Fact? You really want to get in to facts?
Jesus (the person that would be moulded to believe he is the son of a god) was born in the end of summer/early autumn
The celebration of that birth eventually dropped right in during the winter solstice by the roman empire to undermine the pagan celebration of "the birth of the unconquered sun", a sun God on 25th December. Now that's not very Christmas like is it. Not very good will to all men and that bollocks.
So the celebration of Christmas is not off to a very good start.
However it is still very much your choice in how you choose to do your "Christmas", I know plenty of people that have fucked Christmas off and returned to celebrating the winter solstice. Christmas still exists as whatever form you want it to be, if you feel you need to be a part of that rat race then it's on you. The powers that be are not forcing anyone to do anything they are simply capitalising on an opportunity presented to them, just as they do with anything else.
With the people I know that celebrate Christmas, we are doing it simple. Get together, meal, good company, exchange of small gifts. No huge extravagant over the top expensiveness to it. Because we chose to do it that way.
With my pagan friends we are doing the same just without all the jesus nonsense.
Funny that, free will and perspective of our own actions. |

That’s a fair point covered, well done
But at the end of the day, when it gets dark, and all is said and done, just before the Fat NoN Binary sings - None of it ever even happened any way, its all just a load of made up bollocks that never even happened in the first place, its all just another bandwagon for people to ride |

It did happen though, well more evidence for than against, there was a man named Jesus that was born and made the world believe he was the son of God. He didn't perform miracles, but he existed. An impressive con man at the very least.
Evidence, though slim, that he may even have been the great-grandson of Cleopatra. |

I love all the silvery-white lights, and gaudy psychedelia. That's more a solstice reaction though. Love telling kids tall stories about magickal things. Cute and hilarious.
Most of the rest is a bit too much hard-work, a bit "expected" rather than "given freely", and we can fall into fakery a bit too easily, which smells as bad as sprouts.
If I minimise exposure to my disliked bits, and up the exposure to the fun bits, I take a lot from this time of year.
In terms of the Christ thing, I'd rather get the ethics of Christ and Buddha, dispense with the god(s) malarkey, mix in the best bits of Marx, add tits and pouty lips, and shag the resultant superfemale until we're 112 and have helped solve, with bilions of others, a rather awkward human tendency to be a bit shit x |

Absolutely. If you're annoyed about anything Xmas related, you can stay.
