What's the big deal with Greggs?

"I don't get it the food is mediocre at it's best.
The Baker's Oven did it far better long before Greggs.
Two things Greggs do well.
Mince pies and tuna crunch baguette."
The Pound Bakery in Merseyside/Wirral NE Wales do it as well as Greggs but cheaper |

"how can a vegi sausage roll be a sausage roll?
it must have meat to be a sausage roll by the very name
"
That’s not just Greggs…
Veggie and Vegan options should not be allowed to be marketed as meat. E.g. ‘plant based chicken’
It’s plant based plant.
You chose it, bloody own it!….. |

"I went "up north" to Manchester where there is a Greg's every 500 metres. They do not do Tottenham cake or London cheese cake in any of them.
Or pie and mash!"
No pearly kings and queens doing the Lambeth walk either. |

Just Google these two London dishes and would love to try them. You can keep the jellied eels though. |

Aw no slander against Greggs please don't get me started I LOVE Greggs so much you have no idea. I've moved from the UK and it's genuinely devastating to live without it. It's all about chicken fucking rolls here. I am going home soon and the thought of a bean and cheese melt and a steak bake and brownies makes me sooooo happy. I do love me some junk food. |

You can be as snobby as you like. I agree that greasy pastry should be a once a year treat BUT.......
During the week when I nip to town I go early and I get a porridge and a cup of tea for under £3.00.... Thats less than a coffee at Costa ..
So Greggs ... yes please
If I go for lunch I have the sweet potato pakora and pulses salad...
Last week in Aintree I had a veg bake .... It was like thick soup in an oil filled flannel ...
Win some lose some . |

Thery do a cracking set of doughnuts!!!
I bought a pack after I had been to Hobby Crap (Craft) one day & had not had any time to grab dinner...
Sat down & ate some & had the rest with a cup of tea when I got home.
Their veggy bakes aren't bad either & that's coming from a meat eater!!! |

Granny, have you ever actually tried eating an oil filled flannel? If so, we need to know more. Context. Etc. |

I don't know why it's so popular, all the meat things seems to be mostly salt and grease. Nor is it cheap. It'd be fascinating for an employee to turn up on here who can explain what parts of what animals the meat is from. |

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands |
I have never ventured into a Greggs shop neither have I ever tasted any of their products.
My favourite sausage rolls are Morrisons Lincolnshire Sausage Rolls which I sample at 7am every Saturday morning. |

I don't get it myself, not the hype or the queues out thedoor anyways. I popped into one for the first time in a long time on a whim for a sausage roll. £1.35! I was expecting about 60-80p, maybe 4 for a £1. I looked at the prices of other things. It terms of bang for your buck it's not too expensive however I feel I could do better with my money somewhere else. It's definitely not a place I'd be ranting and raving over. |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
"Love greggs vegan rolls - you know exactly what you will get and they are hot and super cheap and available EVERYWHERE!! "
Erm... sorry to disappoint... we haven't got any here. I think there may be one in the big town yonder... but the local bakers are too lovely and very reasonably priced. From what I remember of Greggs their food tends to all pretty much taste quite samey and is very greasy. |

"Gregg’s is handy but I quite like the Tim Horton’s breakfast wrap or just having a coffee with a donut there.
I don't think you can beat the value of Tim Horton's breakfast deal."
Prices aren’t too bad and I really like the dark roast coffee they do |

"The fact that Greggs is even being discussed as a culinary topic is just wrong!
It’s just sustaining matter in times of need and choice "
I've always thought of it like that too, which is why I've never been as I've always found somewhere I prefer in time of need. |

"Is it only in Glasgow that a sausage roll is known as a "Greggs dummy"? Cause of the number of greetin' weans in prams you see munching on one in an attempt to placate them.
"
Certainly heard that one. |

"Greggs is the food of scumbags"
Could probably make an argument that most places ‘is the food of scumbags’ according to differing opinions and perspectives.
I’m no fan of the subway chain as I think the shops have a funny smell. |
