So I got around to watching the reality version of Squid Game on Netflix.

And just like with all reality shows, I didn't care about a single contestant. Didn't care about their motivation, their back story, their sob story. I didn't have a single interest in a person. Was not rooting for anyone, didn't care about a winner.

As I'm watching it I could not help but think, why do they show the "interviews" with them. It just made me dislike them even more.

So does anyone else not care about these people and just wants to see them play the games and be eliminated?

Oh spoiler, they don't get killed, only sent home another thing that made it boring!

I haven't watched that but I get really fed up of every contestant in telly talent shows having a 'story' or being on a 'journey'. Just sing or do your magic trick and clear off, nobody wants to know your hamster died when you were 7.

And when they tell you about their gran, husband or mother dying and how much the song meant to them (as was the case in strictly) you know that they are safe that week.

There isn't lots of reality TV because it's good. There's a lot of reality TV because it's cheap to make.

I agree!

I know that industry fairly well...

I thought the casting for it was shite. I didn't rate it at all as a series sadly. Some things work better as dramas!

Physical 100 is on Netflix and a shit load better

That's funny and so true! This is the first year we haven't watched one single, excruciatingly teeth clenching, mind numbing episode of Strictly. Oh please, "I've made a friend for life", no, you haven't.

And I hear the final is tomorrow; thank Christ it's over and we're out for the evening anyway.

You won't have seen the contestants on I'm a Celebrity promising to be friends for life then...Nigel Farage is all I'm saying about that

Well yeah, but that's not what this is about. It's about the whole "getting to know the contestants" thing, it's the most boring part of the show - of any show. Show more of the games, less of the people!

Takeshi's Castle, the greatest game show/reality show/contest show in the world ever - because the contests were just that, nobodies. On screen then forgotten.

Reading back, I sound a right grump but, really....these reality shows are so predictable and tediously wretched.

And the one with the big red balls! Argh, why is my brain bobbins today?!

The games themselves were fine, I enjoyed that bit. It's the filler bits trying to get you invested in the people.

The only one I came close to "liking" was Rick, as Em said. But even that is pushing it.

It was very over the top with the talking heads. Digging a bit too hard for narrative.

From a game planning perspective... kinda was genius, the way they took expectations and subverted things. I enjoyed that bit.

I fancied 3 people in there though, so I had my own personal hook.
