A female friend has a significant birthday coming up; not a lover, which makes choosing intimate items for her definitely inappropriate, but someone who I know enjoys lingerie shopping & for whom gift vouchers would be something she would enjoy without feeling she needed to redirect them toward anything puritanically practical. Asking her what shops or brands she prefers is an obvious option, but hard to do at this stage without ruining any element of surprise.
Is there anywhere in particular people would recommend? Expensive is fine, save for the extremes when the price begins to reduce the pleasure. Costs occasionally seem to correlate inversely with the amount of fabric involved.
Being male, my personal shopping experience of underwear focuses, as English common law demands, on M&S. Whilst the practicality of this approach is unimpeachable in reference to my own sleek thighs & entrejambe, in this instance M&S lacks the required amount of glamour. |

If it's "definitely inappropriate" why are you buying her lingerie? |

I would swap the word "inappropriate" to "difficult". Only you will know if it's truly inappropriate and based upon your eloquence I would say that you are well aware of your morals, sense and sensibilities. I hope you find a most amiable solution to your quandary. |

Choosing intimate items for her would be inappropriate, but you don't want to get her a voucher for somewhere that soes carry some good quality stockings and lingerie but is not immediately and solely equated to the more intimate items?
I don't think I can help. There are plenty of wonderful underwear and toy sites, but if I got a voucher for one from someone I wouldn't be comfortable gifting me the item directly, I wouldn't be comfortable spending the voucher and forever associating the items purchased with someone I'm not into who would know I had spent it there.
At least M&S does plenty of homewares and normal clothing. I could happily spend a voucher for there on lingerie and not feel ick for the person who bought me the voucher. |

Thanks for the suggestions, and the good wishes - including the good wishes contained in the warnings. This is a dear friend who I have known for the best part of three decades; one of the rare people with whom I swap gory details. I've no wish to choose specific intimate items for her, but I think a voucher that obliged her to frivolity in that direction would be something she'd enjoy; and I'm entirely content there'd be no feeling of ick in either direction. |

Has said friend got a partner. Are they or would they be happy you getting vouchers for lingerie and toys for her? |

Paper Town Central, Essex. |
Trip to the movis and a meal, some flowers.
A nice card and some chocolates and a bottle of prosecco.
Doesn't need to be underwear or a toy. But if that's what she'd like, go the voucher option.... |
