No not the condom kind.
You hear of safety wives/husbands right, where if you don't get married by a certain age you'll marry one of your friends? (It's a thing I saw it on a programme!)
Do you have a safety sex partner? If you don't have sex by the end of the year you'll just make do and have it with each other?
At least you get sex right?
(Yes yes we know it's about connection and all that jazz....)

I don't know about safety or back up as such. But I have a couple of people that are just fuck buddies and all parties are aware that it's a matter of convenience and knowing the sex is good rather than wanting to spend real time together.
There's booty calls each way now and again when other plans fall through. |

It’s not really that hard at all
Just depends on how much off my dignity do I want to give up to get it

Would I be attracted to them probably not
Would I have connection to them probably not

Yes I had a 'safety husband' it was his idea that if we weren't married by aged 30.... We'd marry each other....But we both went on to have long term relationships with 2 other people |

I think the "make do" bit is turning people off the idea. Though it is you so that makes sense!
But yeah it's very specific fwb. Sex with somebody you somewhat like when all else fails and other people let you down and fuck you over for a year, you know at least somebody will fuck you by X date. Not the same as a regular fwb, not as formal as a fuck buddy. |

To be fair, I do understand why the make do and backup vibe is unappealing.
But someone I've met previously in a group scenario, with all of the sexual chemistry perfection but absolutely nothing in common with otherwise, who's happy to engage in some happy hedonism when there's a little tension to release. That doesn't sound like a bad thing to me at all.
I'd much prefer that to trying to connect with someone I'm not all that interested in to start with. But I would also much prefer to spend time with the people I adore or the people I can feel that potential for a real spark with.
But, as long as everyone is on the same page about it just being a casual fuck or booty call setup rather than expecting anything more, I'm good with that  |

It is more about making sure a friend had not gone without the sex for too long.
It's less about being their last option, and more about helping a friend out, mutually.

I had this with a lady friend that she said if she isn’t married by 35 and has kids she wanted to just co habit with me and get it all lol
