If its fat then cut out alcohol.
If its not then tone. Easy lay flat then lift feet 6inch of the floor/bed and hold for as long as you can repeat 3x every day. Easy just lay there... |

I’ve lost 3 stone doing a calorie deficit, 10k steps and swimming which has worked wonders.
Took me so long to pluck up the courage & motivation but now it’s like second nature to me.
You can’t spot reduce so the weight will come off where it wants to come off, for me it’s my waist and boobs losing inches quicker than anywhere else! |

Months of stress worked for me. Lost 2 1/2 stone and about 4 inches off my waist. Wasn't eating much and not drinking so I guess that might be classed as dieting though.
Now I'm not stressed any more I'm just hoping I don't put it all back on again. |

This is really lovely Blu x
But yeah no I don’t like the way I look so it’s about time I did something and hopefully stick to it |

Be realistic with whatever you decide though Steve. Find something you enjoy or sign up to a challenge like a 10k/half marathon. If you don't enjoy it, you won't stick to it. I play football because I enjoy it and signed up to the London Marathon next year as I need something to motivate me. Without enjoyment or motivation, you'll struggle to stick to it. |

Less calories, and what ever exercise you can stick too for at least 3 months. There’s no quick fix or lazy way of doing it. Hard work |

I just cut down to 1000 cal a day and lost a steady 2 lb a week for 8 months or so. Foolishly, I didn't stick to it, which I should have done. Basically, it needs to be forever to keep the weight off.
In all fairness, I only eat out once or twice year at a restaurant, and still do soups 4 days a week, and I might have a glass of wine once or twice a month, so it shouldn't be too hard to get back to it. |

Change what you’re eating as others have said and get more active, gyms can be intimidating for first timers, and you do have to have that mindset to be able to go in and do a workout, personally i find them very boring, take up an active sport maybe, badminton or a martial art? Something that gets the heart pumping more, or even circuit classes, I find these are good as you’re in a group all doing the same thing so you get that support around you.
Best of luck pal, but don’t just say it, do it! |

Long slow distance winter jogs. I love running in UK winters. Out while it’s still dark in about 4 layers and a hat 2-3 times a week the weight will drop off fast and stamina and endurance will benefit too |

Unfortunately diet is the biggest key to the problem. If you don’t want to change your diet then you need to up your energy usage - walking is great because you can fit that it in anywhere but any sustained cardio will work.
Putting muscle on is also a good way to burn fat because building (and maintaining) muscle requires a lot of energy so that can stop it being stored.
Whatever you do requires consistency so choose things you can keep up over the long term. |

There's no need for extreme dieting, just being mindful of what you're eating and treating yourself when you fancy it makes the difference. I've lost two stone just by watching what I eat and that's with no exercise at all. |

No magic formula; just be more careful about what you eat (and especially drink) |

Intermittent fasting is amazing, and you still can eat your usual food, just watch out for the really unhealthy ones, full of saturated fat and sugar.
Otherwise, you know me, I’d say go keto.
And sex, lots of it but I’m not an expert on this subject.

Exercise & cut down meal portion size & easy on the booze
I eat 5-6 meals a day & train 4 days a week wearing a waist trainer. Small portions mean my gut doesn’t stretch, waist trainer helps burn fat round my waist & I stay away from beers they make me feel bloated. Hope this helps |

Without dieting?
If you aren’t prepared to alter the number and composition of calories taken in, then the only lever available to you is to increase the number of calories consumed.
Unfortunately, the body is incredibly efficient. Walking a mile at a decent pace, for example, won’t burn off the calories in one finger of a twix bar.
So if you want to lose body fat without changing diet then you will need to increase calorie output by 3,500 calories per week to lose one pound per week.
There is no way to simply target belly fat. It doesn’t work that way. |

You can be in a deficit without dieting. Just have to do a shit ton of exercise to burn more calories than you consume

There is pretty strong evidence that you don’t lose weight from exercise.
Perhaps the original couple of weeks and then your metabolism adjusts.
There was an Infinite Monkey Cage Episode called Are we what we eat.
Informative listen but basically everyone has an individual calorie burn. And if you don’t burn it exercising your body will burn it by making you anxious or inflammation etc.
When you start exercising suddenly you get a calorie deficit but your body then readjusts and spends a bit less on the anxiety.
Kind of makes sense to me because the only way I can lose weight is eating less calories.
Also the exercise shock theory is probably why HIIT works and the intake thing is probably why Fasting works.
But cutting calorie intake doesn’t have to be dieting it just has to be careful with what you eat.
Raw celery has very low calories, but cook it and the calories quadruple, banana whole vs mashed is a significant difference.
This is because the process of cooking or mashing has released more of the sugars and made it easier for your digestive system to absorb the calories inside.

True … I’m not really awake yet … replied to one of the few posts that wasn’t actually suggesting diet changes, d’oh!
Yeah, as I’ve posted myself, trying to lose body fat through exercise alone is slow and requires huge increases in calorie burn.
Long sustained activities like long distance running or multi-hour cycles would help, or my personal favourite is playing golf … played yesterday for example, 16,000 steps in muddy conditions, carrying a 10kg bag .. active calorie burn: 1,100. But three additional rounds of golf per week would still be less than 1lb.
Running 1km for me produces active calorie burn of c.70 calories … so an EXTRA 50km per week to lose 1lb!
A lot easier to make some small adjustments to diet, just get rid of one or the habits like chocolate bars or crisps. |

I see dieting as good restriction as in removing certain foods or food groups. Calorie deficit is still eating what you want just tracked so I personally don't see it as a diet as there are ways of managing this

Abs are made in the kitchen, I’m afraid. As has been said already, burn more calories than you consume and the fat will gradually go. Be patient.
You don’t have eat like a rabbit, but you need to know what you’re working with or you’ll get nowhere. Look online for a TDEE calculator if you haven’t already and get an idea of what constitutes a caloric deficit for you personally. If you can get some body composition scales, that will help too.
If you tense up and can’t ‘pinch an inch’, you may be packing too much visceral fat (really not good for you in excess).
If you need to tone your abs too, get onto core exercises. There are far better ones than sit-ups and crunches….knee raises, suitcase carries, anti-rotation stuff like Pallof Presses; a lot of the time it’s the transverse abdominis that needs the greater work, not the rectus abdominis. |

I’ve lost weight by going to the gym regularly & playing a sport. i do mostly weights and i’ll be honest i’m a massive grazer so i’m terrible at calorie counting but it seems to be a slow and steady process.
keep going and keep positive |

True re exercising the core. If the core isn’t particularly toned then it is an easy win, taking inches off waistline and improving appearance. Done in conjunction with other measures like increased calorie burn and reduced intake, it gives better overall results.
Important to have variety in core exercises … there’s a big drop off in results if you just keep doing one exercise. |

I don't diet nor do I calorie count etc will actually make me eat more in the long run.
Think it's about mindset, seeing it as getting healthy rather than to have a smaller waist or arse. And then doing proper little swaps that you don't actually notice. Increase your non excerise activity also helps. An hour or so in the gym is only a small percentage of your time. And good sleep routine, feeling more awake helps you make better choices too. |

I agree with all of this and small food swaps are a great way to sustain something. Changing things drastically often means that is habits kick back in

What you need to do is get yourself into a chaotic deficit meaning you are consuming less calories than you are expending. As overall simple that sounds.
As we don't know your actively levels it would be wrong to assume sand give you generic Arbitrary advice.
None the less nutrition is 2/3rds of the task and exercise and physical activity is 1/3 of the task. |

Not sure if anyone mentioned that already (sorry!), but if you think you might have emotional issues with food or exercise - look into that too. Rewire your brain, teach it new ways of thinking of your relation with food and activity. Sometimes we are our own hardest obstacle to overcome, aren't we? My tummy folds keep everything crossed for you

Yes. This is a massive thing that tends to get overlooked by most of the calories in calories out crew. Yes of course that equation will always work, it's basic science but the mind is very hard to overcome. Not impossible but very hard. |

I lived in the Comoros Isles and ate nothing but rice and beans bc our work food budget was $2 a day. Utterly utterly miserable but lost a ton of weight. So there's something like that.
Not sure I'd recommend it though. When I came home the first thing I ate was a Little Chef breakfast. Not great typically but still I remember it as one of the best meals I've ever eaten! |
