In the UK the salt pot has one hole and the pepper several but in some countries it's the complete opposite, what's going on here

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

Pepper is finer,multiple small holes.Salt is coarser and attracts moisture so it sticks to itself,one large hole.Salt used to be on the table in an 'open salt',a small dish.You put salt on the food with a small spoon.
