So last week I had a PSA test done. These are supposedly free for men but actually cost me £18.00
That said it’s the best £18.00 I have spent as it’s come back high and further investigation is needed.
Now I know these things aren’t always accurate but my message is for all the men here, or woman with men here please tell them, get tested. Don’t leave it too late. It’s a blood test.
Sometimes there are no symptoms. As men we can be bad or embarrassed with our “bits and pieces” but please don’t be |

Not offered by my gp as no family history or underlying issues, so went to a local social club who organised a company to come and do it. Apparently it’s becoming incredibly common to do it that way.
I only went as people I ride bikes with got tested the same way the week before and two were deemed high |

It seems eminently sensible to me. My dad has them regularly but he's 96 and has prostate cancer.
I think there's a definite move towards those who can afford it taking these sort of tests. |

It’s sad that a simple test that can save a life has to be paid for but I guess it’s the way we are going, that said for those that can’t afford it it’s awful. |

I had a 40 year old medical and they said that they wouldn't test me as I didn't have history in the family
I think I'm going to get tested but I'm far too scatty and haven't booked yet.
I have some symptoms but could be a multitude of things |

I have mine tested every few months along with loads of other things and it’s free and If I want the nurse will come to my house to take the bloods and the results arrive in the post at my house the next day and my results are emailed to my doctor and specialist as well.

Had a PSA test a couple of weeks ago, which led to an MRI scan last week (which was so relaxing that I fell asleep). Got a face-to-face consultation in a fortnight, so am assuming the news isn’t too bad.
I am one of those blokes who has buried my head in the sand with medical issues. My advice is get a PSA test done if you are over 55 and/or you are going to toilet more than twice during the night. |

I had mine done earlier this year .. I wasn’t offered it or referred but I had to have blood tests for something else and asked if they could test the PSA as well given I’ve gone over the dreaded 5-0 age mark!
They were kind of reluctant to do it without a referral but as it runs in the family they agreed to it.
I don’t know how old you are OP, but if over 50 I think you should be able to get one via the NHS free? |

I totally agree with you, I get checked every year and like you said, men can be embarrassed, I was when I first went for a digit inspection, but it was absolutely nothing to be embarrassed or worry about, they deal with those things every day |

I am 48 and as above not entitled to free tests
The post is saying regardless of paying or not if approaching 50 or over for men to get tested not to question my integrity or lack of

I wasn't questioning your integrity.
I was saying the NHS rules are bollocks, if men can't afford it just lie to get a free test.  |
