Can provide home address for our Surrey Hills mansion and our professional qualifications document's and a naked full length picture standing next to the Porsche or Mercedes, Bentley or Lexus you choose. |

Having reveiewed some of the profiles that are professionals, the minimum income is now £250k per person or £400k for a couple.
£15k/£25k to join with the joining fee being sent directly to me (so i can afford to join) |

60k! Sorry I won't mingle with anyone on less than £100k and without a masters degree. "
Is 60k in London really above an average profession al wage..
60k in Middlesbrough on the other hand and you could probably buy a street |

Oh dear, oh dear. Being a 'professional' as I was thought of when I was working, doesn't make you either likable or sexually attractive. I don't share the values of a lot of so-called self-proclaimed professionals and generally prefer to avoid them. So not in favour. |

Surely being paid for your occupation no matter what it is constitutes you being a professional. Otherwise you are an amateur.
Hands up all you professional tradesmen and women for example.
Or does OP have a kink about being in a room full of pin stripe suits lol. |

I don’t think it’s about class. Many people on fab are chartered or fellows of their professional body and are just normal people.
They just chose careers that require professional ethics.
I don’t get the negativity |

Is there a reverse snobbery going on here...
There are those that achieve and those who will never achieve..
There is an old addage.. birds of a feather flock together...
Why the negativity for a professional forum. There could also be one for tradesmen so painters and decorators can chat with electricians and plumbers...

Why is it that if someone mentions they they are a professional, that this means they are “up themselves” or that they should be treated differently?
Is this more about you being resentful of professionals did some reason? And assuming that they see themselves as different or superior in some way?
|

Judging by profile volumes and their comments, there may be few other people left, should all the professionals shift into the pro area.
Perhaps site supporters could have an additional grade, 'professional', obviously set at a higher fee, commensurate with their status, the true platinum level, say @ £5 per hour, or part hour, logged in? Obviously this would give them a lovely profile icon and, I'd hope, a badge that could be worn at socials, clubs etc. A glow in the dark option for doggers too |

Agreed.
To me, it just gives an indication of the sort of work environment the person is in, quite likely an office environment (engineers, lawyers, accountants etc) or medical / pharma for example.
Ie. If looking for army lads or tradesmen, this profile isn’t going to match.
But I see no reason for people to be so chippy about it.
Might be simpler if people simply posted their profession rather than saying “professional”, so as not to cause offence … |

Professions and trades are different qualifications.
Not sure why one category should be viewed so negatively. |

“Equals”?
I can’t see any “professionals” suggesting that any other parts of the workforce aren’t equal to them. Why pretend otherwise? |

Profession: “a paid occupation, especially one that involves prolonged training and a formal qualification.”
Usually associated with qualifications such as actuary, accountant, solicitor, architect, engineer etc |

From some of the posts here, it seems I’m supposed to live in “Surrey hills”, have a chauffeur-driven limo, drink “chateau Margaux 1638” (no such thing), and look down on other people who work in different careers to me … all because I passed a few exams and gained qualifications to help my career prospects.
The truth is more mundane, I’m afraid … grew up in a deprived area of Dublin, studied hard, earned 3 sets of letters after my name, moved to London and had a half-decent career. Number of times I looked down on anyone else? Zero. Just extremely thankful for good health, parents who demanded that I made the most of educational opportunities, and half-decent aptitude for a couple of subjects.
Snob? No.
Look down on people? No
Bentley? No.
Professional? Proud of it. |

Subs / CPD etc are essential in most professions, if you want to practice that profession, stay up to date and prove competence.
If your initial professional qualification is no longer relevant to your work / career, then by all means ditch it. |

The room members not come to a consensus on the agreed meaning of the word “professional “
Then the room will need to decide the next steps.
The room can then set up committees, sub-committees and sub sub committees to research the topic. A few trips abroad will be required. So we need to raise finance for that. We need sponsors and donors. |

Sorry it’s not clear but I was being sarcastic.
I was in electrical world and we have been inundated with unqualified sparks who have done the 5 week course. It takes approx 5 years to qualify properly as an approved electrician.
I did take my education, registration and cpd seriously. |
