I've had quite a few messages lately from men claiming their localish to me but according to their phone location on their profile they're hundreds of miles away... As far as I am aware those distances are usually pretty accurate.
It's not something I've ever come across before but it's been quite a regular thing lately.
Am I right to smell BS? |

Could be a VPN thing, especially as Apple have just added iCloud relay to their services so if in a private browser you can choose to vpn and it’ll bounce around world.
However I do think Fab uses GPS to access data location. Although undoubtedly there will be apps trust help you mask that should you want to.
Same rules as ever, don’t give out personal details until you’ve verified they are genuine. |

Tends to be that their phone location matches where they say their from. Only really happened since I had a face pic as my profile pic hence the suspicion. |

Depends how you set it. Mines set at a certain postcode and it stays the same wherever I am. |

VPN won't change the location data, that's picked up from the mobile network, not the way that internet traffic is routed.
I'm on a VPN going through the netherlands but Fab still says I'm 10 miles from people in my area.
Could be local people who travel for work? The distance shown is very likely to be correct |

Wherever I lay my hat |
"Call me simple, but just ask them where they’re from?
You really think they'll tell the truth? "
In my experience they often do. But their view of local often differs from mine. And anyway - it's irrelevant as proximity is not a sufficient reason for meeting imho |

You don’t know until you ask.
There’s many reasons why the distance widget shows the results it does. It’s not necessarily anything to be suspicious about.

It's not always accurate/true. I used to think it was, but it's not.
Somebody I know, it says they are only 30 miles away, when I know for fact they are much further. They are honest with me that they aren't 30 miles, but regardless that's what it says. |
