Would Sundays be more social if we went back to shops being closed on Sundays?

There would certainly be less traffic on the roads. This would mean we can get to my mother in laws that much quicker.

No keep em open

When you work more than full time hours during the week sunday maybe your only day to go shopping.

I remember how boring Sundays were when I was a kid and nothing was open. IT was all to do with religious bollocks so no, I don't want to go back to that.

Most definitely as struggling to get shopping during my lunch break is bloody hard work when town is full of people that don't work, have all day but do their shopping etc during this period

My Sunday Morning was Sunday School followed by a few bottles of pop in the Catholic Club with my Dad. Good old days

Glad someone got something outta the church experience. I was forced to go twice on a Sunday, as were my brothers, and we hated it. Blood and fire twice on a Sunday ruined it for us. Interestingly, none of us are now in the least bit religious.

southend

I used to spend alternate weekends with both sets of Grandparents.

One set were Catholics, and one set were Church of England.

Which meant different Sunday Schools. And people wonder why I have no belief in organised religion now!!!

I grew up in Northern Ireland where Sundays were full of wierd old men preaching praying and forbidding everything. No shops, no tv and church three times on Sunday. It wasn't a family day, it was a God day... and I wasn't, and still aren't, into that. Worship your God..fear your God... dark dark days. Never ever would I advocate a return to that. It's funny how many of them are involved in scandals today....

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Sunday was the only day both my parents were in the house at the same time, so was guaranteed shouty day. Me and my sisters spent most Sundays out of the house.

Sadly nowadays we live in a nation where we expect too much of people.

If there is no pressure on folk to work on a sunday then fine but companies have as part of employment contracts that sundays may form part of the working week so to me thats unfair.

I am in no way religious but feel a day off from shops being open would not really be a bad thing. Will it ever go back to how it was i doubt it.

Just because their open. Doesn't mean you have to use them. I try to stay away from town center's on Sundays. I like to make the most of the only day. I can have a nice long lay in.

Coggeshall

I wish Sunday was a day of rest. I, as a truck driver, am expected to leave Sunday so as to get to my first delivery for 8am Monday morning having used very little of that days driving/working hours. It's not something that happens every Sunday but more often than not.

Ruins Sundays and has done for over 20 years but its all part of the job.
