For those that work away from home what do you do for food in the evenings?
I get bored of pub food as it’s all very much the same, a sandwich or pasta “meal deal” doesn’t do the same.
Even a take away style meal gets boring.
I’m talking about 3 nights a week away not just the odd one or two |

Have you considered getting an apartment with a kitchen whilst you are away? One of the (many) reasons I dislike work travel is poor food and being able to make your own is great rather than eating crap every night. |

I work 12 hour shifts in the middle of nowhere and prep all my food beforehand. I know not quite the same as your situation but if you got a cool box you could manage for most of your time away.
Prepping food is a ball ache but eating out or eating crap makes me feel like crap so worth it

I think it comes down to cost. 2 or 3 nights in a premier inn compared to rent |

This is a pian OP. I'm working near 80 hours per week till Christmas. While I'm close to family, I don't have time to call in for a cooked meal, and the room I'm renting gives me no access to a kitchen(not a story I can elaborate on). So basically, I'm eating from different food stalls around the Christmas market on my lunch break, and having the odd sandwich or takeaway in the evenings. It socks but I'm getting by. |

Depends where I am, but I usually prefer downtown areas with good cheap Asian or Middle East restaurants and will just eat grilled chicken salads, hummus, or a chicken biryani & mango, Lassie, etc rather than pub food, it’s much healthier.
If I’m socialising with clients or colleagues, then we’ll go somewhere fancy |

In my experience you can generally find apart-hotels for the same price as a premier inn. |

I work ridiculous shifts day and night and my body clock is shot to pieces but I can relate!
There is only so much “outside” food you can eat.
It does eventually come down to meal prep.
I’ve resorted to a company called Cook Foods.
They do decent home made frozen meals which I can prepare in a microwave
Or I cook and take something with me.
I did the whole Uber eats thing and meals for 1 deal and your right, it gets tedious eventually! |

Eating out whilst your working away sucks. I dislike not having control over my nutrition.
That said. You can buy bagged salad, cooked meat etc and soup. So you can manage, it's just not ideal.
I'd try get some meal prep done and see how you go taking that.

I agree with this. Worked away for years and can always get a nice apartment for around the same price. Nice to cook for yourself instead of eating out, cheaper too |

Air bnb’s instead of premier inns. The prices I imagine would be reasonably similar. You’d have access to kitchens.
That said, I used to spend 3-4 nights a week out. I had a power inverter fitted in my van, so I had a microwave to reheat pre-prepped food.
Suppose it all boils down to individual circumstances, financial restrictions set by employers, etc. |

I'm a PT and competed in bodybuilding shows before so I know all about having to make sure you're covered food wise when out and about. I recommend you make up your evening meals beforehand and store them in tupperware. Freeze them then throw them into an insulated bag. When you get yo the hotel tell them you're on a special diet and can you store your meals in their fridge and reheat with their microwave. Never had anywhere say no. |
