"I have to wonder what on earth people like about a South African accent. Also, which South African accent, because Platteland Afrikaans and Durban or Cape Town English are very different, not to even get into Zulu or Sotho." As I mentioned South African I'll just pop you a little reply. I've had a few women in work this last month that I have initially thought were Australian. Then when I said as much and they said try again I went for New Zealand, only to be told they were South African. I really liked the accent so I listed it

I'd hazard a guess at English-speaking, possibly coastal, but equally likely Johannesburg. I just don't see the appeal, it sounds flat and dull to me when I hear it next to other accents. (I'm from South Africa originally, so I sound like that).
"I have to wonder what on earth people like about a South African accent. The English is plenty with really slight differences. Irish and Scottish (Welsh?) were mentioned, which is nice, but... French or Italian are the only cool ones outside of UK. I mean we have people from around the world, but actually I didn't meet even 1 French and maybe 5 Italian in over 16 years in the UK. I actually work in a university and still French and Italian is not common at all. I met more people from the Philippines,Malaysia, Thailand, India, Brazil or Australia. Common European accents here: Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Hungarian, Romanian, Chech, Slovakian, Litvanian, Latvian, German, then French...etc. Didn't write anything wrong or rude, but I know I will get the eye rolling and some funny comments. I can't stick my head in the sand when I see certain things. Would be easier probably, but I guess I'm a little rebel.
